I'm not responsible!

, ,

2007 set a new interesting record. Denmark had five brand new rules every day – or one every five hours.

After having been stable at around 1,000 rules per year throughout the 1990s, the law factory has begun to work at top speed.

The Danish government scored a record of 1,854 new laws and executive orders in 2007, compared with 1,475 new laws in Sweden in the same period. And we still call Sweden "Prohibition Sweden"!

I guess that means that that soon it will be official that Danes do not have to think for themselves. When everything is regulated by law, you remove the responsibility that people would otherwise have shouldered.

Guess I should be checking out the danish laws there should be a few silly laws there. :D

Dacotah 2. September 2008, 05:27

Oh my, sorry to hear that.

attilasoul 2. September 2008, 05:32

@ Selurus ~ We sure have a few silly laws too - I actually made a post about a few of them, check them out here if you like. :D

@ Carol ~ Don't worry, we are getting used to it here.

gdare 2. September 2008, 05:32

"Denmark had five brand new rules every day – or one every five hours."

:eyes: I guess they must defend their existence. SOmetimes it is boring just to sit in a nice office, doing nothing....
Politicians... :yuck:

attilasoul 2. September 2008, 05:33

@ Darko ~ They sure like the control. Sometimes they even call it "to regulate the behaviour of the Danish citizens". *Shakes head in disbelief*

Moesring 2. September 2008, 05:40

I don't suppose you've compiled a list of some of the more unusual or eye-rolling laws that were created in that time?

attilasoul 2. September 2008, 06:04

No Moe, I have not compiled such a list. At least not yet. :D

theoddbod 2. September 2008, 06:28

I have a feeling our own figure is much higher awww

Spaggyj 2. September 2008, 06:55

That's... Scary!

theoddbod 2. September 2008, 06:57

I can't find a link, but I think our figure is somewhere around 5000.

Spaggyj 2. September 2008, 07:04

Wow Mart, really? Wouldn't think it to look at the chaos of our country.

attilasoul 2. September 2008, 07:13

5000? :eyes: And I thought Denmark had a lot of rules! :yikes:

rose-marie 2. September 2008, 07:47

That's too many laws!

Den1z 2. September 2008, 08:08

are they really required or it's just: "obey! obey you citizens, never question! we know better than you. even if it's silly behave as we like!" :furious:

theoddbod 2. September 2008, 08:13

I was trying to find a link, but nothing yet. I think it's something like 'grown from 3500 to 5500 a year since Labour came to power', that kind of article. Half are from the EU, though, and we tend to add bits to them. The rest are often law-and-order related, especially terrorism stuff and tax 'evasion'. The laws relating to money laundering are pretty nasty too.
I think there have been something like 5000 new criminal offences created in the last decade too.

Dacotah 2. September 2008, 09:00

attilasoul 2. September 2008, 09:58

I agree with you, Rose!

@ Dennis ~ I think it depends on how you look at it. Some of them are probably required, but I don't think we need rules for everything.

@ Mart ~ We tend to add exceptions to the EU laws. It's kind of weird. Apparently we like laws and rules, as long as we decide them ourselves.

qlue 2. September 2008, 17:06

You know the world is screwed up when it takes ten million laws to enforce ten commandments.

theoddbod 2. September 2008, 17:18

Ah, but five million of the laws are how to weasel out of the commandments p:

Cois 2. September 2008, 21:11

 Mart

devans186 3. September 2008, 01:13

Who keeps track?

Does the public know and abide?

flamingo-rinse 3. September 2008, 03:52

'Thou Shalt Not'. I like it - simple & easy to remember

attilasoul 3. September 2008, 05:03

@ Devans ~ Some of the laws and rules are just small ones, others are major. The public usually know about the major ones, the other we'll figure out when we break them. :D

@ Nick ~ I like that!

@ Qlue ~ That is a good point!

wickedlizard 3. September 2008, 16:24

I think this is a world problem - I think the States and the UK are in a similar scenario. Portugal is trying to catch up.

maddysman2003 4. September 2008, 00:53

They have a lot of laws, but what is the enforcement like?

Cois 4. September 2008, 01:02

They beat people with sticks if they don't obey.. :insane: its the stick law..

selurus 4. September 2008, 05:30

They make the laws stick, do they?

gdare 4. September 2008, 05:34

Sticky.... :yuck:

Cois 4. September 2008, 20:28

Use a washcloth man! Ewww.. :yuck:

maddysman2003 5. September 2008, 16:43
