I don't quite agree with you. The net can not replace Real Life. And virtual communication is just an extra way to communicate, not supposed to make us stop communicate live.
I agree, but it is very possible that we will never meet in a Real Life (on the other side, never say "never"). This is just another way to communicate but it could easily become the only way of communication in a not far future. Unfortunately. But one of the features of Internet (and blogs as a part of it) is that you are not bound with physical limits of everyday life - in Virtual Life ("Second Life" ) everyone can say things that maybe cannot say publicly - here, you can choose avatar and nick, even fake a geographical position and stay unrecognized. People are, in general, weak.
I beg to differ. Humans are by nature the strongest things I've ever encountered. With a little self belief and a few less destructive journalists and advertisers they could be an incredible species.
As for the future of web based communication, a man in Cambridge in the UK has managed to come up with a way to link two nervous systems via an implanted chip. Both feel what the other feels. With such an advancement it wont be too long til sites like this stop doing smileys and start doing feelings available to post. Imagine reading a story (more likely listening to the author read it to you) and as you get to the creepy part you get a shiver run up your spine. That's a basic example of what can happen in the future.
Of course, this has it's most marketable aspect in porn, like most things on the web.
That's true gdare. I know that I am not going to meet many bloggers, if any at all. Only time will show that.
The cool thing about meeting people here, is that it is possible to learn new things, to get a personal descriptions of places you will never see, to even improve speaking a foreign language.
And the possible anonomity, well, it's true that we can't actually be sure that people are who they say they are. But as long as you remember that even though this is a virtual world, it still is real people you are talking with. And just like in real life, there are people you feel connected to, and people you dislike.
I am here to enjoy myself. If people start nagging, well, then it's very easy to just click the "block"-button. To filter out the bad stuff, if you catch my drift.
I agree, nopanic. I created a blog just to see what on earth a blog could be used for. All my posts were private, like a personal diary. But I figured out it was more fun to interact with other nutters bloggers.
Yes there are many fun times "chatting" with "friends" but the very best thing is to be able to study the way people live. You get to see another country better than a tourist ever would by the pictures that the bloggers post. You get to know what they think about from what they write. It is a lot easier to slip past the anonymity than you would think. It is easy to find REAL people on the net. And maybe the term "friends" is not quite right but we can all say that there does become a bond of some sort. You want to return to these blogs to find out what that person is doing now. To admire how much better or different, or similar to your life it is. It is curiosity! A thirst for comradery. An admiration for talent. And people are not weak! People are complex. They my have a weakness and everyone is different. That is what makes blogging to interresting

I love to see all the photos from around the world. I feel like I'm there without ever leaving home.
