Help me keep Opera as my default browser

, , ,

Ok. After a day of solid use on a fresh install of

Version 11.50
Build 1074
Platform Linux
System i686, 2.6.35-28-generic

1. I notice immediately that pages automatically reload so frequently that I couldn't keep my Twitter timeline open because it exceeded the number of API calls allowed. I think I fixed that in opera:config.

2. Some stuff in different web pages not only won't work, some of it won't even display. I'm talking about stuff like the comments section of several different sites.

If some of this sounds familiar to you and you know the secret, could you share it with me here in the comments, please? I really want to make this work. These are just the first two most glaringly obvious problems I've encountered. I'm sure there are more. I'll update this list from time to time adding your solutions to the post (with proper credit for the answer, of course).

Thanks for your interest and support.

I've found issues with comment boxes for a while, even on the windows version :-(
My only suggestion for the moment is to submit the pages/sites in question to Opera for analysis, via the option on the help menu sad sorry that's not much help.

You could try the version 12 alphas/betas to see if they're improved.

Actually, that's a lot of help. I know that it isn't just me and offers a constructive approach. I've always felt better about living in houses I've built. I should feel better actually becoming a part of the process of helping to improve Opera! I've filed enough bug reports over the year for Mozilla Products. Thanks!

Thankfully they made it as simple and painless to do as submitting Opera's own crash reports.

idea Another thought just occurred to me! Sometimes Opera's Turbo mode can be the culprit.

Routing dynamic html pages through their compressor can play up.
Hotmail and facebook can be a right pain.

I find the turbo saves me a lot af money on a mobile connection, and speeds up my lousy connection to the cafe downstairs. If you don't need it, leave it switched off.
It's also very useful if some shitbag is eating all your bandwidth elsewhere in your home irked

Actually I'm sure you can override a sites meta-refresh somewhere in Opera. I saw it in one of the forums a while back.

You will find the Developers frequent the forums, and are usually quick to help, as if it improves their product they want to get on it.

Most updates for Opera are not security related. Most are fixes, improvements or new features.
