Local Television Tower Collapses

This occured on Jan. 11th at approximately 12:46pm. One of my family members had mentioned to me that channel 7 the local ABC affiliate had gone off the air as well as the local PBS station, but I hadn't given it any more thought until I saw this on the web. This 2033ft. tower was located only 10-12 miles north of me. Channels 7-(abc) and 2-(pbs) are still offline as of this posting on 9/13/08 at 09:10am.

I expect they'll transfer over to another tower, but it will probably take awhile. That sounds like a huge tower - 2033 feet!! I travel a lot on I-75 between here and Ocala and see a lot of big towers, but I don't think they are that high.

2 and 7 are back online for ppl w/cable -n- satellite, but still offline 1/20/08 for ppl w reg TV. They were fortunate it did not lay across I-530 as it was tall enough and close enough it could have.

On Radio City (The 60s UK station based in the Thames estuary) there was a gigantic aerial, but I think this one dwarfs it!

On the other hand it was pretty much jury-rigged by a bunch of well meaning amateurs and still withstood everything the North Sea could throw at it. There must be a moral there...
