Classic Guitar

, ,

This is the old Sundale Stella guitar I am in the process of restoring. The date that is stamped inside by the manufacturer is Febuary 1905. So its 103 years old. When I'm done, it will be all original with the exception of the upper and lower bridges and the strings. The sound was surprisingly good even with the original strings.

He stop! Is this your job?

Kimmie 8. February 2008, 14:13

Wow, she's beautiful...

Leonard 8. February 2008, 14:54

The guitar was a gift from a lady who was friends with my mother. The woman was in her 90's when she died. She had won a talent competion with it when she was a teenager herself. She found out about my interest in music and asked me if I would like it. I tried to pay her but she wouldn't hear of it. @conny, no, I am restoring it for myself.

Kimmie 8. February 2008, 15:11

And for free, too?

Conny 8. February 2008, 15:28

Cool!

Lois 8. February 2008, 16:51

Great project! And great that she recognized that you would be interested in doing it.

Stefan 8. February 2008, 18:45

WOW :eyes:
Of course you have to record some music played by you and your band (and this little 103 old babe) and share it with us. :D
Rock on bro! :headbang:

Leonard 8. February 2008, 21:47

Its still a work in progress. My friends son has five guitars. He said we can post a pic of them. I have never tried to upload videos yet, just posted pics and links. Not currently with active band, haven't seen my drummer bud in nearly year and a half. I definitely gotta try to load a stream and see if I can do it.

Allangie 9. February 2008, 06:35

Deke 9. February 2008, 13:22

Aw, that looks great. Why do I get misty-eyed about old guitars and pretty much nothing else? I think I may have one guitar that's older than me, but at 103 you got me beat hollow, bro'.

I am more envious now than I've been since our rhythm guitarist picked up the girl who looked like Dusty Springfield...

We need a picture of it with strings, it looks kinda naked without them. :D

Leonard 9. February 2008, 14:20

Karen 10. February 2008, 00:11

Awesome! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Glory Knipp 10. February 2008, 14:10

Still a WIP. Cup of Gold was Steinbecks pirate novel about Sir Henry Morgans history and the raid on Panama.

if i had one of those i would play all day long until my fingertips were grooved callouses.

Leonard 15. March 2008, 02:38

One of my friends had a parts guitar the same size and style except from the 60's. We didn't tell her soon enough that we wanted it for parts, so by the time I got around to askin, she had already trashed it. Its neck was broken at the body but the bridges, strings, ect were good.

scott cumming 15. March 2008, 03:06

it's a good deed for sure, to add another guitar to the world. even if it's made from parts.

Deke 19. March 2008, 19:56

The thing that annoys me more than anything else is watching people destroy musical instruments for some reason. Setting fire to a piano, smashing up a guitar, or just straightening out a trombone, I just find myself thinking someone could have played that...

Dennis 23. March 2008, 09:53

@ Deke's comment: Who did that song about hating people that smash "perfectly good guitars"? Was it Tom Petty or Warren Zevon? Do you know the song I'm talking about? I'll have to find a link! Oh, Happy Easter, everyone!

Deke 24. March 2008, 12:19

I don't think I've heard that one (Although I'm not much cop at listening to the words...) so if you locate it post the details, I'd kinda like to hear it myself.
