Hunting...

more than the kill

Small game hunt

First small game of the season wasn't great, a lot of the small game vanished in the pockets off poachers.

First day pigeons

Nice job. I didn't even go this year yet for small game.
Is that a hen on far right and can you shoot them if not. Od pup looks ready to take a snooze. :D

Thanks, these 3 far right are indeed hens, we shoot hens when we counted enough hens in the late summer, than we take a small percent from the counted hens and that number we shoot. Makin' sure that their are enough hens for next year
The dog did a good job, if a may say so, she was indeed tired. She's for now the only dog we have but another one is gettin' ready, it's a Drotszoru Magyar Vizsla .Not my dog though but from a fellow hunter.

Again nice job . We cannot shoot hens in NY Pheasants are mostly gone now ,There are a few places where the state stock's. when i had the pointer i had fun though. We could only take two roosters per day. :frown:

At the end of december we go especially for the roosters. We take as many as we can because the hens will get fertilized anyway by a single rooster. Otherwise where are two roosters they fight almost to their's one death. So it's better for not having many roosters in the field. One can keep easy a few hens here and there, they don't care after they are done mating with the hens, roosters don't have to pay for child support .

Still not bought a new dog ? If you can you must, keeps you busy

yea, the lady of the house and my self are arguing about the benefits of having a dog. :D :D. The problem is I have one son in Miami and it is difficult to have a dog taken care of,especially a shorthair, when we travel. If I could find one about three years old in a pound I might get one. I don't care to wait 3 years for him to grow up.

Saturday 12th December - Good hunting today? Cold & clear here in Dorset. Is it OK with you as well. If so have a good day & get a pheasant for me! We have not had one for some time now. Road kill pheasant for me when I see a good one!

Everythings fine with me, thanks. We have been hunting, seen not much pheasant or hares, only at the last piece of the hunt. They where all at the same spot, boxing! The hares are mating already due to extreme soft weather so the season's ending here, in minor. We still have the Canadians and woodpigeons, ducks for a hunt. But now the weather has turned into winter and when there's ice on the water and snow in the fiels we may NOT hunt, in the rest of Europe its allowed to hunt by snow, as far as i known. So there ain't much left than doing the things i usally delay.
