Even champions have to push their bikes sometimes! From Bicycling.com: 'It's early May and Ned Overend has a cold. Some might think that the two-time World Champion and six-time Norba National Champion would train through it. Not Ned. "I've learned that I pretty much need to shut down when I'm sick," says 51-year-old Overend from his home in Durango, Colorado. "I rode today for an hour, but I don't get my heart rate up, and I don't do any hard breathing. I should be able to kick it in a few days." Patience comes with experience, something Ned has in spades. He's raced both road and mountain bikes since the early 80s. His long list of accomplishments and continuing success earned him a spot in the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame while he continues to build on his legendary status. This guy's been at the top of his game for two-and-a-half decades.'

MB Action photoAlthough he's 51 now, mountain bike racing pioneer Ned Overend hasn't stopped redefining his goals as an athlete. The day before his birthday recently, he competed in the Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb, finishing second. In 2005, Overend placed fourth in the same race, just two seconds behind the third-place finisher more than 20 years his junior. This time, his second-place time of 54 minutes, 41 seconds was an improvement over his '05 performance, and gave him the course record in the master's division. "I was hoping to improve it a little bit more, but maybe I'll save that for subsequent years..."
