2005 La Ruta de los Conquistadores champ Thomas Frischknecht (Swisspower-Scott) has reportedly confirmed that he will defend his title in the world's toughest mountain bike race from November 3-5. The Swiss offroad ace has "promised to fight against any rival or weather conditions" to secure his second consecutive trophy in the biggest Latin American mountain bike event. He will have to contend with fierce rivals like Colombia's Leonardo Páez, currently #1 on the UCI’s Marathon Bike World Cup ranking, and American Jeremiah Bishop (Volkswagen-Trek) who finished fifth last year. MTB pioneer and bike builder Tom Ritchey is also expected to give the mother of multi-stage MTB races a go this year. More /La Ruta de los Conquistadores
