ok, these tips are not to substitute antivirus - they are just tips to minimize the risk of a virus infection from an usb flashdisk.
during this manipulation, we're going to use a healthy and safe computer (recently scanned and cleaned with an updated antivirus)
during this manipulation, we're going to use a healthy and safe computer (recently scanned and cleaned with an updated antivirus)
Let's go:
1°: scan and clean your usb flashdisk with an updated antivirus.
2°: explore your usb flashdisk and enable the option "show hidden files"
3°: check the root folder of your usb flashdisk (F: or H: or I: ...) if there is an "autorun.inf" file inside - it's a hidden file, that's why we should enable the option "show hidden files".
4°: after a scan and a cleaning of your usb, start "Notepad" and save as "autorun.inf" this empty file in the root folder of your usb flashdisk.
don't forget to put "..." when you give the name of the file overwise it will be a "simple txt file"
5°: After that, close "notepad" and check at the root folder of your usb flashdisk if you have "autorun.inf" file. If you got this, you are on the right way :-)
6°: Right clic on this "autorun.inf" file and change the attributs to "read only" and "hidden" - then "apply" and "OK"
that's it :-) ... you can remove your "safe" usb flashdisk and use it to other pc
explanation:
these last years, most of virus infection are from usb flashdisk.
if there is an infected computer, once you plug your usb flashdisk on it, it's sure (99,9 %
this "virus.exe" file is an executable program (yes, virus are executable program
this "autorun.inf" is launching when you open the flashdisk by double-clicking on it.
that's why we put a "safe autorun.inf" on "read only" and "hidden" attributs: to block the access of the virus (he cannot change anymore the contents of this autorun.inf file)
remember, as I said, this tips will minimize the risk of infection: because it will prevent the creation of an "infected autorun.inf" in the usb flashdisk BUT iT CANNOT STOP THE INSTALLATION OF VIRUS.EXE ON THE FLASHDISK.
That's why you should ALWAYS SCAN AND CLEAN YOUR USB FLASHDISK when you plug it on a computer
changing habits can protect you through many things
