I sent this as an email earlier to a friend who lives and breathes the Austin music scene but then I realized maybe it belongs here, too.

Geez, we leave town and ACL get's a great line up.

The Decemberists are playing (strongly recomended!) and Björk is going.

We went to a party a few years ago where we were asked to bring a baby pic and a picture of who we wanted to be and then the game was to guess the most people correctly based on just these two images. S's "want to be" picture was Björk. Mine was Dag Hammarskjöld. Now there's a couple you never imagined before.

Anyway, I thought you'd appreciate that and wonder what it says about us. Some of the other entries were quite interesting. Someone brought a picture of a person on a boat, another had a badly drawn Superman, and the most confusing one was an advertising picture from the 70's meant to evoke "family".

I also found it interesting that we both picked Scandinavian people (with umlaut's in their names) many years before we thought we'd be living here.

Heh: I'm pretty sure that ACL Fest didn't exist when I was in college. Heck, 90% of the Austin music venues from those days aren't there anymore, torn down or converted to something else. Of course, there are new ones and more of them. And then there's the whole "would I actually go to ACL Fest" question. Probably not. The heat and the dust and the expense and the people ... for the most part I'm happier with a few clear ripped tunes on my shuffle than kinda seeing a stage over the beer drenched crowds and not hearing it too well. Generally I'd rather see an OK band at Hole in the Wall or the Cactus Cafe than see all the big names at Glastonbury. But that's me.
