Crashed with a boulder - story of pain at TIPO Cup 2007

Part I.
Sunny Saturday. Middle distance event. I started quite late wich was lucky because of the bushes.
Did a good warm-up, went to the start, and I just heared the sound 'beep'. Good tempo at the beginning, controls OK, some small mistake to 5th no problem I got back to the race, I saw the flag early at 8th, 10-14 OK, but then...
I was running down the hill at 15 and heared a big SCRATCH. Oh no. I almost fell down from the pain I felt. I began to feel freeze, and could hardly breathe. I've hit my knee to a big boulder. I know my race was over, I didn't even know what to do.. I decided not to give up but was very painful, like a horror.
I jogged to 16th, and than I tried everything with my one leg and my adrenaline in my head, I tried to push it hard till the very end with my only healty leg.
The result doesn't matter but.. I couldn't bend my foot after I've finished running. I didn't know what will come tomorrow or could I run or not.
But than came just the sweet Sunday race and the pain story will just now continue for me...

National Team - Running Control

JWOC preview

Still two and a half months left to my main target of this years o - season.. But I can't wait to run this contest! After almost two years with no international succes I'm hungry I can say. And that's what was missing in the previous year. I uploaded a well known map from Australia! Difficult but not impossible! Just feel the contours and don't care about the huge number of stones and rocks.. Some kind of tactics. But watch out and read what the new world champion Hanny Allston said in Orienteering Today..

Postas Cup Long

The second day of the event. I knew it will be hard,I was ready to fight till the very end of the race. But, today I didn't gain such a good place like yesterday. In one hand I made all of my mistakes to the second and third controls - so I felt starting with a gap - otherwise this 14,9km (600climb) was a bit much for me to run in good tempo. After about 80 minutes my legs began to feel tired and felt on every hill " I'll never get on the top anymore". rip
I do not write about all my legs on the course. My time was 114 minutes, which ment the 12th place today. In the overall I finished on the 8th place. I'm only worried about my mistakes in the early part of the course, till the TIPO Cup (end of April) I have to analyze it a bit. Otherwise, even if I felt death tired in the end, I did not get so much in running - and I even feel this on my training that I'm going now to get in a better and better shape.
I'm hungry for the next races! :knight:

Postas Cup 2007 -Middle-

It was there, the usual spring contest in Hungary, nowadays the only two-day event in our home attracting more than a thousand competitors...

I started in men elite, where it was very special now; the normal categories had two classic distance race, but on the 1st day we had middle.
The course was really tricky, the terrain has a special part owning lots of detailed contours: small valleys, re-entrants, knolls, spurs with a vegetation of bushy and semi-open areas.

I started early and it gave me a special feeling to focus only on my orienteering, on my own route choises and tactics. I felt self- confident thanks to some mental exercises from my coach Magda. On the first control, I took a good route choice - where almost no one of the competitors has gone - and won about 20 seconds on the others.:star: I catched a 2min earlier started runner at the second, but thank to the bad visibility a did not see him until control 4 where I overtook him finally.
The first two controls where in that challenging area, but the 3rd and 4th controls were out from here, in a flat and much quicker part. I think the km rate changed here to under 6min/ km. Apart from not being sure before the third (10sec.) I did not miss here, and had best split to control 4 (2:08). The fifth control was much different, a longer leg with some route choice. I focused to stay in direction and headed a bit south for not to get so mush uphill before the control.:star: Control six was OK, but to the 7th I lost contact and had to relocate:confused: , lost about 1min - 1min 05' to this control. The 8 th and 9th were again out from this tricky area, I cought them flawlessly.:star: :star:
To control 10; there was a route choice, where I headed north instead of going along the valleys which lead to the control. On this uphill I began to feel really tired and was hard to concentrate on the map. I saw the flag from far, and than there were only the two remaining controls (11 and 12) in my mind. I tried to push hard to the 11th and got the control without problems. The very last uphill to the 12th was killing; the sun was shining hot, and it was so steep and 1-green that I had to use even my hands to climb up. I only tried to stay in contact focus on the map. "Come on, you can do it its the last control to find". And after some hesitating before the pit I finally got it:star: and had only to sprint down the hill to the spectator control and to the finish.
I felt really tired because of the heat and the green areas but I knew it will be hard for everyone. It was a pleasant tiredness.

My teammate Adam has won the race, with a time of 34:32, beating Zoltán "Diesel" Dénes (36:06) and bestfriend Zsolt (36:26) I finished 5th after G. Józsa with a time of 37:24, which made me very happy. Previously I was not so sure that in the middle I can be on top among the adults.
Thanks to his 1min20' mistake at the end I' ve beaten Peter Vonyo who was in a very good shape in the last 3-4 weeks.

Of course I am sure that in international its even not enough for a success, at a Jwoc final I m sure that the winner could run around 30 minutes. But here and now the warm weather added to all the runners' time extra 1-2 minutes. I judge the race for me was O.K. and a god beginning of the spring season.

Hungarian Long Distance Championship 7th April 2007

Today, it was the day of madness, the day of thrilling long legs, and of a 17.2km long orienteering course. to be quite frank - with close to 900m ascent
My result? I gained the silver medal - but to be honest - today there weren't many opponents - the only opponent (bestfriend Masee) has beaten me by almost 7 minutes. He took 123' at this course, my time was 130'.

I began the course relaxed and with many good route-choices. After about 60 minutes it could have been good to finish the race! .. But! - 2/3 of the total climb was in the first 50 minutes of the race - maybe that's why I felt total exhausted at about 85 minutes of running. I think I miscalculated my power and at the last 40 minutes I lost about 5-6 minutes to my teammate - best friend Mate. Okay, a 2minute and two smaller mistakes helped me to build up this gap - but mainly it was to thank for less running power at the end.
I doesn't mean that I walked the last 5 kilometres, but from the splittimes it clearly seems that I've lost my full tempo..
Generally, I don't feel so worried about my race, I' ve got the silver medal, and it was a good finishing of the winter training session.

Bienvenue, Grüss Gott, Tjena

As you see I started to write a blog..
Maybe, I've too much time (I don't think so) or just to have fun.. Playing computer games doesn't make me joy, I'd rather write about my deepest orienteering feelings here =)
And: because it will be so deep and passionate I don't really plan to make this page so public.

Hallo meine liebe Freunde und alle Menchen surfing from Internet right here.
