Supposing anyone stops by here, my presence will be very limited for a bit. I might have drowned my laptop in ginger ale and black cherry vodka.
never drink and type and read a book at the same time. Finances permitting I will have a new laptop toy between now and January. I won't be able to regularly keep up, but I hope to make an appearance or two. I am quite saddened because I haven't backed up since August, which means all the pictures I'd taken for the 365 group are gone except for their place, if they haven't kicked me out already, I hope not
Since it's beyond repair, I think I want to take my laptop apart and look at it. May it 
or in pieces. Maybe I'll try to find an interesting picture of the technology at rest.

@L2D2: I think you can maybe get away having a spill on the keyboard, but on a laptop, the "brains" of the computer are just under the keys, so it's more likely to be catastrophic.
I am not as good about backing up my files as I should be, too. I bet there's still some chance you could recover the data on your laptop's hard drive, though. Have you tried talking to the computer support people at your university?
Anyway, we'll be missing you till you can get regularly re-established online.

Thank you all for your comments and well wishes. I will have to try to see about hard drive recovery. I am going laptop shopping today, and off to see new moon at midnight and then sometime friday I hope to be reconnected. I miss the connection to the world my computer is.
