Be sure to be clear about when you want to stay, when you call for information. Rates vary not only by room and view, but also by season. Ask also about tax, the quoted price may not be inclusive. Be aware that inns may not be open year round so check on availability, and ask if there are any special package deals. You may be able to get a free lobster dinner or other benefit with a two-night stay.

Don't decide on the right inn for you before you check on all of the boring particulars like reservation and cancellation requirements, methods of payment accepted, check in and checkout times, house rules, and whether the inn takes pets or children.
