You will need to be extremely careful if you are going to use a bear spray. A bear attack deterrent might be useful in many cases but it will be dangerous if you try and use it in a case where the bear in question is not a threat to you. The bear could attack you if you provoke it with bear pepper spray.

There are several situations where it will be fine for you to use a bear pepper spray product. These situations relate mainly to cases where you have a bear that feels threatened and is ready to attack you.
First, a bear that tries to attack should be sprayed. A bear might charge at you and then retreat but then try to charge again. You can use bear spray in this case even if the bear does not appear to be ready to physically attack you.

A mother with cubs should be considered as well. Many den mothers will try and attack people if they feel that there are dangerous to their cubs.
A bear that is protecting a fresh kill should be considered as well. A bear could be protecting such a kill from other people trying to violate or steal it. You will have to use bear spray if you are trying to get this under control.
Also, bears should be deterred with spray if they appear to be acting hostile. This is often the case with bears that are in heat. A bear that might be tough and active in such a manner will have to be sprayed carefully to make sure that bear does not try and get too far off.

The last time when spray should be used is when a bear appears to be charging in a large pack. Sometimes a bear that is in a larger pack will often lead the charge. A bear that is sprayed should be likely to move off and prompt the other bears in a spot to stop charging towards you. You should use this carefully if you feel that there are many bears that might get in a spot.
You should use a bear spray at the right time. You need to do this in order to protect yourself only at the right times.
