That Big C

A few weeks ago my Dad was diagnosed with having prostate cancer. He pretty much expected it so was cold as stone when he found out, leaving his family upset as I don't think any of us expected it. It was a shock (for a few minutes) but like him its something we have gotten used to. Cancer need not be a death sentence nowadays and while the worry is there, we should not worry as there is nothing we can do about it. Only worry about things you can change.
At the moment we do not know if it has spread anywhere past the prostate area. Providing it is contained within that area he has an 80% chance of a full recovery. His operation has been set for 7th June 2005, so until then we just sit and wait. It will not be until after the operation when we know what sort of outcome to expect. In the meantime my Mum and Dad are going to enjoy a relaxing holiday on the island of Corfu... we think they might need the rest before the storm. Good luck to him, I will post progress reports as and when I get them.
Prostate cancer is a very slow growing cancer which gives a good recovery rate. Because it is slow growing, men over 70 yrs old usually do not require treatment as they are likely to die of old age before the cancer gets them.
