Erlang: Da First Day

,

Here are my first impressions after one day of working with the Erlang programming language:

Erlang is the Smalltalk of the world of functional programming. At least, syntactically: Erlang's syntax is very simple and simultaneously very beautiful, just like Smalltalk is. Erlang uses ISO-8859-1 character encoding for representing characters, which is not acceptable for the age of Unicode we are in, but as in Erlang strings are simply lists of integers, it is easy (but, maybe, not efficient) to support the Unicode encoding in Erlang.

I will write more about Erlang in the future: My first impressions after one week, one month, six months, and one year.
