Ubuntu Breezy unstable on nVidia

,

A few months ago I installed the 32-bit Hoary on my AMD64/nVidia GeForce 6200 PC and it was quiet unstable. Today, I finally had Breezy installed on my system, but to my surprise the problem is not fixed yet. From time to time my screen blows away. Also the caret usually becomes invisible.

Here's a screenshot of my desktop illustrating the problem:

When this problem happens, I have to logout and re-login. Any ideas what's causing this?

Hoary burns ISO images corruptly

, , ,

Last thursday I downloaded the 64-bit ISO image of Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy) via BitTorrent and I burnt it with Hoary's built-in CD burning tool. A few minutes after the installation process began, I encountered an error and couldn't finish the installation.

Then I downloaded the ISO image once again in Friday, but by using wget. This time, I also checked the MD5 checksum and it was fine. Once again I burnt the ISO from Hoary and tried to install it on my system and to my surprise the problem still persisted.

I was sure that my blank CDs were clean and I was very confused. Saturday, I downloaded the i386 ISO image, burnt it from Hoary, and the problem was still there... I was very angry, bored, and confused.

I told myself maybe the problem is with the Hoary's ISO burning tool. Once again I burned the ISO image, but this time from Windows and via Nero and the problem was gone! I couldn't believe that such a piece of buggy software (I mean, Hoary's ISO burning tool) has found its way into the stable release of Hoary (and probably many other Gnome desktops).

Anyways, finally I had Breezy installed on my system and I was ready to enjoy it
