Nearly Four Months Later

The past months have been quite a journey. I feel so much better a lot of the time. Some days are still tough, like Saturday when I was nauseous and had a splitting headache. But my son and I spent the day outside clearing a path to a campsite. I worked really hard for over an hour and kept asking God for strength to be a help to my son. My memories of that day are good ones! The headache could have stolen my joy, but I didn't let it.

In just a few weeks, the Babesia should be gone. It is a malaria like illness that is transmitted through ticks. Lately, I have had a bunch of nights when I don't get much sleep because I alternate between chills and sweats. The good news is that this means that I am getting rid of the Babesia.

In April, if the Babesia is really gone, I will begin a yearlong treatment for the Bb Lyme. This type of Lyme is a lot harder to get rid of and is caused by a tick born spirochete bacteria. The spirochetes slowly multiply and bore into the various parts of the body, including the brain and slowly damage the various systems of the body. Some people have significant mental problems- ie memory loss, mental illness etc.

Thankfully, my mental problems are not severe (although some people might disagree with that!). I do struggle with remembering things that other people seem to recall much more easily. Sometimes I get in my car intending to go one place and end up somewhere else.
Who would have thought that something like that could be caused my a tiny little bacteria!

It is hard to explain to people when I forget things or drive to the wrong place that this is normal for people with Lyme Disease. Usually, I get a "yeah, right!" or a roll of the eyes in response. One has to keep a sense of humor at times like that.

It is time to move onto something else. I have a Great Pyrenees 18 month old who had knee surgery 10 days ago. I spend a lot of time these days sitting with her. She is on bedrest for now. Poor thing wants to play and run, but has to stay trapped in a cage except for brief outings to the outside for the elimination stuff. She resists coming back into the house and uses all 106 pounds to hold me back from getting back to her cage. I have learned that a pocket full of treats will help entice her back to her cage area.
