SMM Auto-Installation for Baldur Gate Fans

, ,

The Standard MegaMod (SMM) Auto-Installation for BG1+ToSC & BG2+ToB is an auto-installation program that helps you install a "mega-modification" of quests/items/scripts extended by the die-hard modding community built around the Baldur's Gate Trilogy series using the Bioware Infinity Engine. Basically, new faces, new spells, new kits, new items, new quests & much more.

Many BG players (including myself) have been unable to find many good AD&D games after the BG series, as such they sought to develop extensions & quests based on their own creative ideas. Such include the BGT modification to even bring the entire BG1 series into play using the BG2 infinity engine. There're lots more like The Darkest Days, Souls of Soubar, Tortured Souls, Reign of Terror, Check the Bodies, and the humongous effort by Big Picture to bring everything together.

This mega-mod installation is best suited for such fans who just want to play with a compendium of Baldur's Gate modifications, but have no idea where to start.

Infinity Explorer v0.85 (Fixes for v0.75/v0.80)

, ,

Infinity Explorer was always my preference to view dialog files for IEngine games, and reading scripts. The original v0.75/v0.80 versions were slightly outmoded as time flew by. Thus, custom dialogs files like BG1NPC "X#**.dlg" that are not indexed in chitin.key don't show up on the list in Infinity Explorer. Hence, slight fixes for these and couple of other issues have been made to update the program, and I understand that it has not been done before.

Infinity Explorer is a simple intuitive brower, so I hope the updated version will be useful for modders by and large.

Natural Orchids That Last Through Ages

My latest commitment involves the marketing & business development aspects of a company that deals mainly with the R&D and manufacture of high-tech preserved orchid flowers. Their technology is patented and won the third place in the prestigious International Geneva Invention Competition in 2000. We are currently trying to expand the product scope of the business on immunization of botany and agriculture.

Also, did some artwork for marketing purposes. Feel free to visit the websites.

Using a Dictionary (Hashtable)

, ,

Here's a pretty good tutorial on hashtable / dictionaries. Found it while studying some performance issues between the use of try/catch vs containskey for a dictionary with about 200,000 key/value associations.

Showing User Controls On Toolbar C#

, , ,

User controls very useful for creating reusable code. Adding them as separate projects to your solution, and referencing them would have these user controls appearing on your toolbar by default.

However, user controls when placed in the same project in visual studios some times don't appear on your toolbar. Recently had this experience when loading up some code on another workstation. Did some googling and seems like a number of people are having the same problem.

The solution is simply to go Tool > Options > Windows Form Designer and ensure that the AutoToolboxPopulate option is set to True.

Disappearing Nested User Controls C#

, , ,

When trying to nest usercontrols, the child usercontrol sometimes disappears off the parent usercontrol. This is a commonly reported bug on the internet, and there's a hotfix FIX:#842706 for vs2003 but not for vs2005, and its extremely annoying. What happens is that after placing the MyControl on your MyForm.designer.cs, it just disappears when you save MyParentControl in wysiwyg mode.

For me, the problem occurs because the Component Designer auto-validates & re-generates your MyParentControl.designer.cs code again. And, if your MyControl constructor requires initializing parameters, vs2005 will just delete that instantiation in MyParentControl.designer.cs.

SGX StockHelper

Had some time couple of days ago, and started to experiment parsing a couple of pages off SGX's stock price quotation pages. Anyway, I managed to create some auto-refreshing to get some data off the site on a real-time basis. Its quite crappy, but nevertheless works :D

Interesting Article on National Service In Singapore

Especially meaningful for those of you who had gone through National Service before.

It's a well-written article that gives you a good overview of the history of the Singapore Armed Forces. At the same time, it's provides a political analysis of how the SAF could consider deploying its Malay community in key areas of national defence.

Starting To Blogg

Zaii was extremely bored today and decided to start an open diary about the things happening my life and conquests I made, and the failures of the past.

Nothing much today as yet, as I mentioned that I'm bored.
