In Memory: Anna Nicole Smith

ANNA NICOLE SMITH
28 November 1967 - 9 February 2007

Born Vickie Lynn Hogan in the tiny Texas hamlet of Mexcina Anna Nicole was a high school drop out who first married a burger flipper and who later stood on the verge of collecting a half a billion dollars from her deceased Texas billionaire husband. She would never see a penny of the money as the case was tied up in courts by J. Howard Marshall II’s family who saw the marriage as a farce and Anna Nicole as an opportunistic gold digger. Look, this was one hot babe and she slept with a shriveled up eighty something year old guy, so she deserved something.

She is most famous simply for being a limelight loving attention seeker with a resilient attitude. A former Playboy playmate and reality TV show star she did a few campy movie roles and starred in one movie by the Cohen brothers. She suffered from a series of life problems that along with her constant litigations included drug and weight problems, the recent death of her son,a cutody battle over her new born baby and scorching attacks from tabloids and TV shows. She is the trailer park to penthouse story that ends tragically.

She was simple and naïve and her story is almost Marilyn Monroe like in nature. She was beautiful and voluptuous but did not run from the cameras after she porked out on fast food, and she would later return slim and triumphant and the spokesperson for a fitness center. She no doubt suffered from her personal tragedies and maybe those things wore her down, who knows. She was a pretty nice person at one time I feel who had to learn to act tough. Maybe she was not such a nice person in the end. I have already read some nasty, bitter commentaries on her life (mostly by women) and we will not do that here at the Cafe. Rest in peace Anna Nicole.

YVONNE DE CARLO
(1 September 1922 – 8 January 2007)

Sultry publicity still.

From the 1947 movie Slave Girl.

As everyone's favorite vampire girl, Lily Munster.

Yvonne DeCarlo (born Peggy Yvonne Middleton) had a long career with Universal but her one TV series role as Herman Munster’s doting vampire wife in The Munsters seems to have over shadowed everything she did. She did plenty of westerns and adventure films and was glamorous in them all I am sure. Of course she was perfect as Lily Munster and the TV series was a smash. Her Lily was done in the same sexy spooky queen of the dead mode that spawned such ghoulish sirens as Vampira, Mortica from The Addams Family and Elvira. It was a great character but she did a lot of other things worth checking out as well. If you’re interested in good old movies then click the link below and go to the Yvonne DeCarlo section while you are there.

JAMES BROWN
(3 May 1933- 26 December 2006)

Just a couple simple pictures to honor the Godfather of Soul James Brown who passed away this week. I have a couple CDs here of hits and one of my favorite songs is The Big Payback. The one album I have that is not a hits collection is called Jungle Groove and there is not a dull moment on it. Has the feminist friendly Hot Pants on it. I will try to do a little research and write a more fitting memorial to this really cool guy who had a lot of personal problems but turned out some fantastic and funky tunes. His stuff from the early and mid sixties is still fresh and great. Full of funk and fun and soul.

This picture looks so cool for some reason. That dog has some spacy eyes. Just what the hell is going on here? Is this his dog or what?

Here is Mr Funk just doing what he does. There are several hits collections out there and the two I have together cover the best he did as far I know. Ever notice with these greatest hit albums you have to buy two at least to get all the songs you really consider the best of?
There are a few good looking sites on the web and a few bad ones. I skimmed this one and found some uranium matter in it. Links to other funk, Motown, and real R&B sites:

SYD BARRETT
(6 January 1946 - 11 July 2006)

Not to limit the scope of The Uranium Cafe to only classic campy movies I post here a small tribute to Pink Floyd founder and rock-n-roll casualty of war Syd Barrett who passed away this past summer. Piper at the Gates of Dawn showcases Syd at his best but I like his two solo projects as well, The Madcap Laughs and Barrett. Plenty of fans sites on the net if you are interested but this one seems to be one of the best:

Not sure of the time here, but Syd may have been on his way out of the whole music scene by this time. Looks rather literary and healthy with his close cropped hair.

From the photo session for The Madcap Laughs. The picture at the top is from the same sessions I believe where later Syd does all these crazy yoga asanas.

Syd is in full form here. I am not sure of the exact dates of these pictures but I am sure they are all after his departure from Pink Floyd. Here he looks ready to just snap to pieces if you just slapped him on his back.
