It seems like 2008 started with much hope for the new year. Our daughter was engaged and was doing well in school and was to graduate in December. Our jobs seemed to be steady. Everyone was in good health. Things were looking good. Things started to fall apart. My mother was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. She now is on oxygen at all times. My father is 80 and doing Ok but has to use a cane to help him walk. My daughter was dumped and broken hearted by her fiancee. My wife had a lump in her breast but it was removed and not cancerous. I was not as lucky, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The economy took a nose dive and our savings dropped by several thousand.

There was some good in 2008. My father turned 80. My wifes mother also turned 80. Our daughter graduated summa cum laude. My wife and I are both still working. Gasoline fell from nearly 4 dollars here to $1.37. Our daughter was hired to be a permanent substitute for a teacher going on maternity leave.

I hope things get better in 2009. I will see an oncologist in a couple weeks. The cancer is stage one so whatever treatment I chose should be able to take care of it. Let us hope the economy begins to improve and our savings begins to recover. I hope we all continue to have work in 2009. I hope our parent's health improves and that our daughter finds a permanent full time position in teaching.

I intend to keep this blog going a while longer. I will continue to enjoy music (via Pandora and Slacker) and reading books from the library. I have installed Xubuntu linux on my computer and have begun to learn about linux. That should keep me busy for a while.
