I always thought that a cupcake and a muffin was the same thing.

Zap - I've always thought so too...

Furie 22. November 2008, 16:20

Cupcakes are blended, muffins are folded. It provides a different texture.

rose-marie 23. November 2008, 10:33

I think what we call "muffin" here is what you call cupcake. Hence the confusion.

Zaphira 23. November 2008, 11:32

I think Rose is right. While taking this test I googled it to see if I could get an explanation. A site said that Muffins are bread, Cupcakes are cake. But my muffins are definitely not bread, but cakes. So... :left:

rose-marie 23. November 2008, 13:26

I'd call the images in this post muffins.

I had to check my dictionary and it seems that the American word for (Scandinavian) muffins is... well muffins. My dictionary translates that to British as queen (or fairy) cake.
And the confusion is total :left:.

Furie 23. November 2008, 13:46

Fairy cakes aren't muffins.

Furie 23. November 2008, 13:49

Cupcake

Muffin

Zaphira 23. November 2008, 13:55

So, it's the same, just larger?
And what is a fairy cake?

rose-marie 23. November 2008, 13:57

They look pretty much the same to me too, but of the two I'd say the muffin is a muffin :D.

Furie 23. November 2008, 14:00

Think the same sort of recipe (pretty much) but different consistencies due to different methods. Fairy cakes are the lightest and named as such (usually just plain sponge), cup cakes are in the middle (and usually have some filling or topping) and muffins are the stodgiest.

Zaphira 23. November 2008, 14:00

Out of the two it looks as if my muffins are more like cupcakes. P:

Ah, who cares. I'd eat any of the two! :D

Furie 23. November 2008, 14:05

Main difference between cupcakes and muffins is just how badly they'll rot your teeth. Most cupcakes have mountains of icing on and a fondant filling. :yuck:

Zaphira 23. November 2008, 14:18

Oh, I've never had one with filling. :left:
