John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (1964)
Tuesday, 9. May 2006, 07:34:02

The one Coltrane album that anyone who's not into jazz and hasn't heard the saxophone master before should make every effort to get into. The music not only communicates a joyous energy that lifts you up, but also radiates a glow of spiritualism that affects you in the profound way only sublime art does.
The original release with its four largely improvised pieces — they actually sound more like modal incantations — is all you need, though the Deluxe Edition is worth checking out, if only to get a feel of Coltrane's fiery "sheets of sound" experience on the live renditions of the tunes.
