The Music of My Youth

...because your earliest musical memories are the ones that matter the most!

Alvin Lee & Mylon LeFevre - On the Road to Freedom (1973)

An LP from my teenage years that I never got tired of hearing despite severely wearing out the grooves. Everything about this is unpretentious, from the cover, which I'm ashamed to admit turned me on to denim shirts in a big way, to the fine collection of multi-hued — folk, blues, gospel, rock and some soul — songs.

There may be some lumbering moments, and the godly sentiments sometimes don't wash. But Lee and LeFevre treat just about every tune with so much soulfulness and spiritual energy that you tend to overlook their preachy tendencies. In any case, such cavalier cohorts as George Harrison, Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Ronnie Wood are along for the ride to ensure fun is not sacrificed in the name of faith.
