Sweden.

So after Copenhagen I headed for Sweden. Picked up a car in Malmö and drove to Korrö. 3 nights at the Korröfestival, then south to Karlskrona, and along the coast to the beautiful Kalmar.

Kalmar Slott. Very impressive. The city is beautiful too. Like a small version of Stockholm.

After a couple of nights in Kalmar I headed south along the coast and all the way round to Ystad. A little east of Ystad are Ales Steinar. Very difficult to get a picture without at least one of the several hundred tourists there. Almost managed one there, but one of their shadows has sneaked in. Pests.

Ystad. No sign of that detective cove. There was a themed guided tour available, but I skipped it - I've only read a couple of his books - they were fine but I didn't really get into the whole thing. I stayed in the camping site on the outskirts. They were pretty chock-a-block but they were nice enough to find a little space for my wee tent. And biggish car. Like several other Swedes I met, they assumed I was German. Perhaps thinking that my Norwegian was like a German's attempt at Swedish.

Svaneholms Slott. Not far from the main road between Ystad and Malmö.

Ransäter (not).

,

I wish I'd gone to Ransäter. It's the best musical thing, for want of a better term, that I've ever been to, and I've had the privelege of being there the last two years (and have written a little about them - 2009 and 2010). But it's a long drive.... I was sorely tempted this morning to take the afternoon off, hire a car, and just drive south, but I was too indecisive and got lost in other things, and now it's too late. It feels like a particularly stupid decision right now, sitting here on a beautiful evening, with the ceiling thumping from a loud party upstairs, when instead I could be listening to any of the artists here, in beautiful green surroundings, before retiring to my tent at 4am or thereabouts. Next year I will be better organised.

So to make amends I've been looking out some other festivals I can head to later in the summer. From here I've picked a few tempting candidates like Luleå next weekend, or Bingsjö, or Korröfestivalen later in July. It's a long way south though. Maybe I can combine it with a trip to Copenhagen...

Östersund.

Seeing as it was holiday-ish on Sunday, and the forecast was nice, I took a trip east on the train to Östersund. Always wanted to visit there ever since I moved to Trondheim, although I'm not quite sure why. Anyway it was nice enough. Jamtli was pretty cool, and they get extra brownie points for giving me a free chocolate bar just for filling in the survey.

This is the runstein on Frösön, a little island just outside the town. The stone dates from 1050-1080 apparently. It was already broken when I got there by the way.

They have a Scottish pub there called Dalwhinnie. Like most other things, it was shut on Easter Sunday. (I bet it was better than MacBeths in Trondheim though).

Storsjön was still largely frozen, and there was no sign of the Storsjöodjuret, the nessie-like monster.

I like going to Sweden.
