My Christmas tree this year.


My teddy bear . It have been celebrating Christmas with me since I had 8 year old. 12 years with me and this year is under the tree again. His names is Jingle Bell.


YES MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY!!! why because Im a Puerto Rican and all Puerto Ricans enjoy Christmas. For us it is a honor to have the longest and best Christmas in the world and it is a true fact. We love it because we make big reunions with our families and friends; between 15 to 30 members in a house. But why r the best in the world!?

We start the day after Thanksgiving(Friday) Is well know as the Black Friday or some said The Day of the Tree were people go to the store and buy what they need to buy such as presents. We wake up at 4am to go to the malls to be on time for the store to open. They are some stores that start with the decoration sales in the middle of September so people can buy it before Christmas For example: Department Store Of Christmas, is the best and biggest department of Christmas in Puerto Rico. This department is always Christmas all year We find every thing there even typical food of Christmas. Some people wait until December to buy present which is much better for people who don't want to walk up at 4am

After Black Friday people are working as normal and student study in school, but whem we get to December everything get more Christmas specially on the middle of December.

• December 24 we celebrate Christmas eve, but in P.R. don't called Christmas eve is clled Noche Buena. Were we celebrate a big dinner night we are family.

• December 25, children receive present from Santa Clause. I always receive money is more easy. And we celebrate the born of Jesus which is the most import in P.R.

• December 31 is the last day of the year. Were all member of the family come together to said goodbye to 2009 and Happy 2010. Fireworks all over the clear night.

• January 1 Happy New Year 2010

Countries like U.S. Canada Haiti Jamaica, and the Old World except Spain Christmas is over on January 1st.

• January 5 is The 3 King Eve. Were is celebrate a mass in church or in houses. Some people do it in the night or midnight

• January 6 in The 3 King day were is was the day that they arrive to saw baby Jesus. In P.R. every kids receive present and we make especial festivals for the all family in different towns around the island.

All Central America, all South America, Cuban,Dominic Republic and Spain end Christmas on January 6, But the only country in the world that still Christmas is Puerto Rico.

After January 6 P.R. is preparing to celebrate 8 MORE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!!! Why because we dont want to stop. This 8 days called The Octavitas. Some People specially the teenagers celebrate it.

This is called pie,but is not a sweet pie. The pie's mass can be made of Cassava or banana but the banana must be green to make the mass. The pie it fill with pork, raisin, and olive. And it can eat it with ketchup.

Coquito


This is a sweet drink that we drink every Christmas. It mix of coconut cream, sweetened condensed milk,
evaporated milk, and white rum nutmeg. Some people add white rum nutmeg so is option. But it so good.

This is all the plate above but combine and u can serve with a salad. Most Puerto Ricans serve with potato salad.

Decorations

In neighborhoods people decorate there house with lights and status and some neighbors work together to decorate the street and Christmas tree inside or outside of the house.


This is the Mayor Office in my town Mayagüez. The entire building is decorate as well as the time square.


Party and Music

Party is the most import part of Christmas in P.R. This is the biggest reason why P.R. have the longest Christmas in the world. We love to party all Christmas. We like to celebrate with are family and friends. We know how to party, without absurd curfew laws. Are parties are in houses and we invite all are members and friends at less 30 people in the house.

The music is moving and loud and is the best in the world. Why. I show you why,

This instrument is called "The four" is a guitar with 4 string. Is and instrument only fond in P.R.

When we sing sometimes we fallow the lyrics but most of the time we sing with the mind. We think of what we going to say and when we play we said the words. Please skip up to 0:25





But is u like to party like real Puerto Rican or like me then this is your style.

This is called a "Puerto Rican Parranda". This was in a festival and we are so loud and happy. We also wake you up at 5:0oam with a parranda or a "trulla" in front at your house.

Sometimes when we dont have real instrument we use barel of paint. You can see one in the middle bottom.


The students in schools we do a storming or a surprise attack. We do this "parrandas" as surprise. You are do something in your school or taking an Exam and we just interrupt with music. Or in other words WE DONT CARE IF WE INTERRUPT. IS A SURPRISE ATTACK. And if just not in school only it can be ANYWHERE!!!


So this is Christmas in Puerto Rico. And the most import for us is to celebrate with are family and friends. To have a wonderful time and happiest in the holidays. We dont care what country are you from, we dont care what the culture is it and specially your religion. We just want to have fun and wonderful time with everybody.
