Cool Viewer 1.20.17.0 R4
Sunday, 17. August 2008, 09:22:20
This viewer is technically on the level of October 2008. Some people still prefer it and here is a small update to keep this viewer going
Linden Viewer 1.20.17.0 (install first):

More specifically actually.. closing the build editor after editing a sculptie or selecting open from the pie menu on an item where the main linked prim is sculpted crash the viewer. :hat:

mm.. I posted it here since it's specifically the 1.20.15 coolviewer+RL builds. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough.
The regular viewer and the new 1.12.3 RL viewer do not have that problem.

Hello SL-People.
I'm just saying hello and would like to remark that I'm using the COOL viewer (Linux) version in OSGrid, an opensim Grid that is not part of SecondLife. It's very nice because there are no, well, restrictive restrictions here for megaprims, but it would be nice if we could get prim support to full sim size. I know this sounds insane from an SL perspective where the limit is 10 meters, but we don't have the sort of restrictions that SL has.
It would be very nice if the features able in opensim Grids would get a focus. Like being able to build up to 10,000 meter hight.
Bye

cessfully downloaded the Linden Lab 1.20.92456 from this page (opened Agni normal grid w/o problems). I then tried to extract the Cool Viewer over that 1.20.15 viewer at VistaOS(C:)>Program Files>Secondlife and get an Diagnostic message with 120 errors beginning with.
C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp\SecondLife_i686_1_20_15_0CoolRelease_6_exe_xml_only.zip:Cannont create folder Secondlife
Access is denied
C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Temp\SecondLife_i686_1_20_15_0CoolRelease_6_exe_xml_only.zip:Cannont create folder Secondlife\app_settings
This system cannot find the path specified.
Any suggestions? Is Vista a problem?

I have also been having crashes. I had not noticed if it was occurring immediately after editing sculpties, until I saw the note above. Earlier crash today definitely was.
I had wanted to return to the SL viewer, but after uninstalling and reinstalling, I still see CoolViewer 1.20.15 and the phantom "Update Available" notice, so I assume I am still on Cool. Do I have to do something more to uninstall CV?
boylane # 27. August 2008, 12:02
I dont have Vista but that looks like you did not properly extracted the files over the official SL viewer. There should be only one folder "SecondLife" under your Program Files. Are you sure you replaced all files with the ones from the archive?
@Della
I tried to reproduce the sculpty crashes but can not. Are you sure you use the latest version, 1.20.15.0 release 6 which has RLV 1.12.3?
To uninstall, it is always best to delete all settings xml files in the user_settings folder. That should get rid of the message.

@Ezra11
I think i had the same issue with vista. Simply extract the files in a folder on your destktop THEN MOVE them to c:\programs\Secondlife, or any folder SL is installed in (I'm currently on a mac, so i can't check the correct path, but program files has been renamed programs in vista, even if the old name still works).
The security system will check that YOU (and not some malware) are replacing the files.
Voilà :)

ok..someone please help...will this stop me from crashing? The only I won't crash is if i do not run SL as a webpage. Will this stop me from crashing if i do run as a web page?..also...I run vista..specifically which file do I download and what do I co ?..Step by step please?
thanks :)

Hi Boy
You could make (first)life easier too all users installing both versions (1.20.15.0 and 1.19.0.5) by not including 'SecondLife\' into the archive path.
This would allow to selcect the name of SecondLife directory in the moment of the installation.
In fact I think you will even make the life of those using only 1 viewer simpler: the user is used to select the directory where she or he wants the installation. So I always select C:\Programs\SecondLife just remembering this inconvenience and go back up agaein. 2 or 3 times I even installed a directory to deep...
Nati
P.S.
And THOUSAND thanks for you extraordinary work!

i've noticed that all my stressed character in my logs are replaced by this combination of charachter: è
is there a solution to have stressed character stored correctly?
Thank you.

Yes i'm using italian version of windows vista. I've tried the standard SL viewer and i've the same problem. I think it began since i started to use 1.20 SL client version, but i can't undetstand why.

> i've noticed that all my stressed character in my logs

This should be letter è, right? Then there is a problem not in a SL viewer, but in a program you are using to read your logs. SL viewer always writes it's logs in utf-8, and you are trying to read them as latin-1. Standard Windows notepad should recognize utf-8 out of the box (my does), but maybe localized Vista has changed this.
And now a totally unrelated question: Cool Viewer still crashes on slulrs. This topic was discussed here some versions ago, and using a different version of Visual Studio was suggested. Is it possible at least to try this solution?
boylane # 25. September 2008, 10:31
I just tested SLurl and it works fine. Please make sure that you don't mix versions as they create specific registry entries.
If you use the RC it will crash as it tries to start "SecondLifeReleaseCandidate.exe" instead of "SecondLife.exe". Please change the registry keys manually to "SecondLife.exe" in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secondlife\shell\open\command to "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" --settings settings_1.21.2.0.xml --channel "Cool SL Viewer" -url "%1" or similar depending on the version you installed. This refers to the official Linden Viewer to be installed before the CV archive.

No luck. I have tried a clean setup: uninstalled SL viewer, cleaned up the registry, installed SL viewer back. What happens:
1) Installing Linden's 1.19.0.5 release. SLurls are working fine (but I miss the cool features).
2) Unpacking 1.19.0.5 cool 29 over it. Everything is fine (cool viewer is cool!), except that SLurls are crashing.
Content of the registry key you noted: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -set SystemLanguage en-us -url "%1"
I have tried to play around with this: add and remove --settings, --channel, -set SystemLanguage -- no luck in any combination. I have tried both regular SLurls from browser and running viewer with this options from command line, results are all the way the same.

I am having problems with editing sculpts too.
I uninstalled the previous viewer, deleted all files and folders.
Installed: Second_Life_1-20-16-97603_Setup.exe
Copied over files from: SecondLife_i686_1_20_16_0_CoolRelease_1_exe_xml_only.zip
The viewer starts fine, but as soon as I right click a sculpty to Edit it the viewer will crash instantly.
Tried 3 times now and it crashed instantly each time.
I hope this problem can be solved, I enjoy your viewers :)

Which M$VS version do you use to build the 1.20 branch? Currently I get ambiguous hell in lltoolbar.cpp with VS2003.

VS2005 worked a lot better then 2003, got out of ambiguous hell at least.

Boy,
My viewer crashes only moments after using "SecondLife.exe". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the Linden and the Cool Viewers, but nothing has changed. Any advice?

I think I understand why it didn't accept the Cool Viewer. I used StuffIt to extract the files before, and that seemed to create issues with the overwrite. I tried WinRAR instead after uninstalling and reinstalling a third time, and that seemed to overwrite the files correctly.
Also, thanks a ton for the Non-Windlight version. You're an absolute lifesaver. ^.^
boylane # 9. October 2008, 12:26
In worst case you can always unpack the archive first and overwrite files manually. This always works.

I can't even log into SL world :(
It crashes every time! I tried the 1.19 and 1.20 viewer and still no luck...
Anonymous # 30. October 2008, 07:58
The above post was from me.
I have tried the official version of SL Viewer, and all of the 3 versions listed here. (I even tried both of the variants for the 1.19 version).
It just crashes every time.
With the 1.19 version it seems to be more stable - I can log into the world and then it crashes. With the other versions - it crashes before I could actually see the login screen... Sometimes it even crashes without generating a crash report.

Then, if this is all ok, you should try a fresh install and get the official viewer running first. That means do first a complete uninstall of your Secondlife viewer. Afterwards delete all files in your "user_settings" folder. That you can find here:
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Application Data\SecondLife\
Vista: C:\Users\<login>\Appdata\roaming\secondlife\
Now install the official LL Secondlife viewer and get this running properly.
Now, to install the Cool Viewer, you need to get the CV archive with the same version as your Secondlife viewer, that is in the moment 1.21.6.0, and extract it over your installed viewer. Replace all files, not only the SecondLife.exe. And start the Cool Viewer with the included SecondLife.lnk shortcut.
Hope this helps.

I suppose that the problem could be from:
- my OS - Windows Server 2003 - it is not listed in the requirements section of SL, although in fact it is just Windows XP with a bit different configuration.
- the fact that my proccessor is dual-core - have read some theories about that
- the ATI drivers (there were some theories in the SL official forum that the newest ATI drivers are somehow not compatible with SL and lead to crash - but somehow I don't feel comfortable with "outdating" my ATI drivers).
boylane # 30. October 2008, 11:00
You could always try to temporarily downgrade drivers and see if that changes things. I did that a while ago with Intel drivers for an old laptop.

Q: Why doesn't DirectX acceleration work in Windows Server 2003?
A: There are two correct answers for this question:
Official Answer: This is by design. Graphics Acceleration is disabled by default, which disables DirectX functionality. This is to enhance server stability and is not needed in standard server scenarios. Re-enabling such functionality is not a valid server testing scenario.
Unofficial Answer: To enable Direct X, you must first enable graphics acceleration. To do this, right click on the desktop and go to Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting, and set the Hardware acceleration bar to Full.
To activate Direct3D and DirectDraw (DirectX), go to Start/Run and type "dxdiag". Click OK. Click on the Display tab, then click on the Enable button for DirectDraw and Direct3d.
