Cool Viewer 1.22.11.0 R10a - Fully adult compatible
Saturday, October 17, 2009 6:10:53 AM
It has been a while since the last update for the 1.22 viewer but finally here it comes. Although almost everybody else seems to have jumped ship to the newer 1.23 viewer which was forced by LL's adult policy implementation today exactly a month ago (no better date for an update release
) and inability for older viewers to search and access adult rated content, that's certainly not the end of the road for the in my opinion better, faster, more stable and less buggy 1.22 release.The new Cool Viewer 1.22.11.10 R10a implements 4 major changes that are:
- Fully adult compliance backported from 1.23
- Backport of the notecard handling behaviour from the 1.23.5 mandatory update to 1.22
- Restrained Life in version 1.22
- A new avatar radar based on Dale Glass' "historic" version dating back to 1.18, updated by the Greenlife guys as well as Henri Beauchamp.
- Further optimized code and speed with lessons learnt from the Netbook Viewer
A couple of smaller changes under the hood that you may notice or not, but basically it is the good old Cool Viewer with the legacy "old school" user interface you will find yourself easily at home. For details please have a look at the included release notes (please note that this release is different and incompatible to Henri's "Cool SL Viewer 1.22.11.0" which he abandoned in June 2009).
I may introduce a couple of further updates and fixes in the near future, with the main priority on a new Rainbow Viewer release that features the "official" user interface. Stay tuned
.As the previous release, CV 1.22.11.0 R10a comes with a full standalone installer, similar to the official SL client, that installs the viewer independently into C:\Program Files\CoolViewer and uses it's own Application Data folders to avoid interference with an existing SL or 3rd party viewer installation.
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\CoolViewer\
Vista/Win7: C:\Users\<you>\Appdata\Roaming\CoolViewer\
Grab the latest versions here:
Standard version with SSE optimizations that should run on virtually every system out in the wild:

SHA-1: e84a1c6f9c7002d20f7bb80c1a8ae9f65a2a6334
If you have a recent machine (ATI HDxxxx and all Nvidia 8xxx+ cards) please use this OpenGL optimized SSE2 version for newer hardware that runs a measured 20...40% faster depending on your system, especially on new ATi cards. Just run this small installer *AFTER* installing the full R10 release to replace your CoolViewer.exe with the way faster one (if you experience instability/crashes on your machine simply install the full R10 version over it again):
http://coolviewer.googlecode.com/files/Cool_Viewer_1-22-11-0_R10a_SSE2_NewOpenGL_Setup_exe_only.exe

SHA-1: 9a160f4a50a8a5698b4179f3e01b25f3bf3eb524
Please start CV with the included Cool Viewer.lnk shortcut, but take note that you may have to adjust the properties to match where you installed the viewer.
Important:
Please note that the following libraries and components are not included in the package as they are not redistributable. The installer will try to automatically pull them out of an existing installation of a SecondLife, CoolViewer or RainbowViewer on your machine. Please follow the prompt on the screen. Should it not work please copy them from an official Linden Labs SL 1.22.11 viewer into your C:\Program Files\CoolViewer directory to get full functionality :
llkdu.dll Kakadu JPEG2000 library
SLVoice.exe Voice components
vivoxsdk.dll
alut.dll
ortp.dll
The viewer will still run without them but with lower performance (OpenJPEG) and missing voice features.

Enjoy!

These files belong to the voice kit. Just checked in the Secondlife wiki again and seems you are right, someone updated the page. Doesn't do any good either as you still can't distribute the core files and as such voice won't work.
@Anonymous2
The radar channel is defined in the (debug) settings, it's set to -8888888.

Likely an issue with your ATi card. Please try the OpenGL modified version that should run stable and faster. Also here are supposedly better drivers (not sure if they really help):

@Peter
I haven't had any hangs, did you delete your old settings_1.22.xml file? There are a number of changes from the adult compliance that may interfere with old settings.

No 1.22 Linux version in the moment, and I can't promise I make one. Next thing will be the Rainbow update.

Go back to the 7.11 or DNA 8.12 drivers. Clean your existing drivers first completely. I had a X800 card a while back, crashed constantly. Henri suggested to buy Nvidia what I did and it was a difference like night and day. This year I thought to give ATi a try again with a 4870, kept it for a week before returning and exchanging to Nvidia

This looks like a SSE2 problem. What CPU do you use, AthlonXP or P3? It should work with the full installer, not the SSE2 exe tho. Unless I made a mistake when building the normal version, it should be SSE only. Will check it.
The other possible reason is that you have no C++ runtime libs installed. You can get them here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en

Try one more thing, uninstall the 1.22 viewer, then delete all files under Application Data/CoolViewer (back up logs first if any). Then reinstall it. If that doesn't work I don't know....weird.

The last reason I could imagine are permission issues, and that your user account you login and start CV with is unable to write files into the Application Data folder. It may also be possible that you have some data corruption causing the same. So please check with your login if you can create a CoolViewer folder manually as C:\Documents and Settings\<login>\Application Data\CoolViewer>
Also I would run some chkdsk to make sure your files and folder structure is consistent.
CV 1.22 should be completely independent from SL or the 1.19 version and goes into it's own file structure.
A final idea, did you get the popup of the message about non-redistributable components and of the notecard at the end of the installation? If not perhaps your download was interrupted in the first place and the installation does not complete. Please try to redownload the installer.

Yes, I saw that too, I could not really reproduce it, sometimes it worked just fine, sometimes I got the empty lines. I'll have to try again if the adult check box has something to do with it but I doubt it as it only triggers the search and doesn't format any results coming back.

Any chance those could be implemented with CV as well ? Rumor has it that it's a single .xml file but I don't know the details.
Thanks for the new update. I too had feared there might not be one. You efforts are most appreciated, boy.

No, I'm not looking at incompatible features like more attachment points or any other fancy stuff. If you want the latest greatest, go with Emerald. Too many people make viewers and try to outrun each other. No point in doing so. 1.22 is rock stable and blazing fast and so it should remain until the Lab kicks out all 3rd party viewers as they plan

That happens when you did not do a clean install. Please delete the settings_1.22.xml file in your user_settings folder (in Application Data).
CindyCD42Fairey # Sunday, October 25, 2009 7:23:47 PM
Not sure how much I'll be using the new points since the standard viewer doesn't yet support them, but my main objective was to be able to correctly see others who are using them.
No problems yet, but of course - your mileage may vary.
And don't go bugging Boy Lane if this causes strange problems. Make a backup of your avatar_lad file first and restore the backup if you have any trouble with this.
Enjoy,
Cindy

Thanks, will have a look at it when I have more time.
@Sphynx
That's most likely the same with the official viewer. And I'm not going to try to fix all the Linden bugs

You said you go the error message in the first place and removing the CoolViewer.exe.config fixed it? It's likely some mismatch between your local setup and my configuration then. The file is not needed to run the viewer.
@Shirley
No, I don't have the time for this and Snowglobe seems to be dead anyway. There may some parts be used in an upcoming SL 2.0, who knows. Not worth to spend much time with.

I'm a professional coder with decades of experience, I run a contracting business on the 'net doing linux coding and admin. I have coded for Windows in the past.

Feel free to make a Linux version, that's what opensource is all about. Occasionally I may also make one as in the past, but my time is limited. Right now that would be a netbook viewer for Ubuntu.

Where exactly does that happen? Which search? And did you enable the right level in preferences?

You need to enable the "maturity level" in preferences first before you can use it in search.

This must be something with either your setup or how SL treats your AVs
Did you remove the settings in the CoolViewer directory or in the SecondLife directory? These are not the same. Best would be to uninstall the viewer completely, then delete all files in Program Files\CoolViewer and in Application Data\CoolViewer and try a fresh installation from scratch.
