Cool Viewer 1.22.11.0 R10a - Fully adult compatible
Saturday, 17. October 2009, 06:10:53
It has been a while since the last update for the 1.22 viewer but finally here it comes. Although almost everybody else seems to have jumped ship to the newer 1.23 viewer which was forced by LL's adult policy implementation today exactly a month ago (no better date for an update release
The new Cool Viewer 1.22.11.10 R10a implements 4 major changes that are:
- Fully adult compliance backported from 1.23
- Backport of the notecard handling behaviour from the 1.23.5 mandatory update to 1.22
- Restrained Life in version 1.22
- A new avatar radar based on Dale Glass' "historic" version dating back to 1.18, updated by the Greenlife guys as well as Henri Beauchamp.
- Further optimized code and speed with lessons learnt from the Netbook Viewer
A couple of smaller changes under the hood that you may notice or not, but basically it is the good old Cool Viewer with the legacy "old school" user interface you will find yourself easily at home. For details please have a look at the included release notes (please note that this release is different and incompatible to Henri's "Cool SL Viewer 1.22.11.0" which he abandoned in June 2009).
I may introduce a couple of further updates and fixes in the near future, with the main priority on a new Rainbow Viewer release that features the "official" user interface. Stay tuned
As the previous release, CV 1.22.11.0 R10a comes with a full standalone installer, similar to the official SL client, that installs the viewer independently into C:\Program Files\CoolViewer and uses it's own Application Data folders to avoid interference with an existing SL or 3rd party viewer installation.
WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\CoolViewer\
Vista/Win7: C:\Users\<you>\Appdata\Roaming\CoolViewer\
Grab the latest versions here:
Standard version with SSE optimizations that should run on virtually every system out in the wild:

If you have a recent machine (ATI HDxxxx and all Nvidia 8xxx+ cards) please use this OpenGL optimized SSE2 version for newer hardware that runs a measured 20...40% faster depending on your system, especially on new ATi cards. Just run this small installer *AFTER* installing the full R10 release to replace your CoolViewer.exe with the way faster one (if you experience instability/crashes on your machine simply install the full R10 version over it again):

SHA-1: 9a160f4a50a8a5698b4179f3e01b25f3bf3eb524
Please start CV with the included Cool Viewer.lnk shortcut, but take note that you may have to adjust the properties to match where you installed the viewer.
Important:
Please note that the following libraries and components are not included in the package as they are not redistributable. The installer will try to automatically pull them out of an existing installation of a SecondLife, CoolViewer or RainbowViewer on your machine. Please follow the prompt on the screen. Should it not work please copy them from an official Linden Labs SL 1.22.11 viewer into your C:\Program Files\CoolViewer directory to get full functionality :
llkdu.dll Kakadu JPEG2000 library
SLVoice.exe Voice components
vivoxsdk.dll
alut.dll
ortp.dll
The viewer will still run without them but with lower performance (OpenJPEG) and missing voice features.

Enjoy!

Squeeeeeeeeeeee!
I'm so happy to see this! I thought your Cool Viewer was dead. I've been using Emerald for months and I still can't stand the newer interface. Thank you! :D Please keep it up to date!
Anonymous # 16. October 2009, 03:16
Not to sure exactly what those alut and ortp DLLs are, and why you cannot distribute them, but a few minutes with google tells me there are open source libraries that ARE distributable with those names. Might be different things though. Certainly would be worthwhile checking into this to see if you really CAN distribute them.
Anonymous # 16. October 2009, 03:23
Love it! What channel does the radar's announce feature use?
Boy Lane # 16. October 2009, 07:20
These files belong to the voice kit. Just checked in the Secondlife wiki again and seems you are right, someone updated the page. Doesn't do any good either as you still can't distribute the core files and as such voice won't work.
@Anonymous2
The radar channel is defined in the (debug) settings, it's set to -8888888.

very nice to see a v1.22 based release like this. i am still using:
"Rainbow Viewer 1.22.11 (0) Apr 29 2009 23:47:57 (Cool SL Viewer)"
but on Linux... i notice there isn't a Linux release for Cool Viewer 1.22.11.0 R10a. how feasible would it be for me to try compiling this on Linux?
Anonymous # 17. October 2009, 14:41
Once again Boy, AWESOME work! The speed of your viewer is just amazing. Make SL usable again!
Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Anonymous # 17. October 2009, 17:43
Ack, what changed in this (r10 & r10a) release graphic wise?
Cool Viewer 1.22.11 (0) May 24 2009 18:35:56 (Cool SL Viewer)
This version runs flawless without any problems, R10 and R10a runs beautifully... that is until they crash without any warning. Sometimes every 5 minutes to 20 minutes but they DO crash.
I know my hardware is a bit old (ati 9800 pro) but something changed between these version to make the newest release unuseable :(
Anonymous # 17. October 2009, 17:59
When I open Search the new CV reproducably hangs.
Boy Lane # 18. October 2009, 05:02
Likely an issue with your ATi card. Please try the OpenGL modified version that should run stable and faster. Also here are supposedly better drivers (not sure if they really help):
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx?
@Peter
I haven't had any hangs, did you delete your old settings_1.22.xml file? There are a number of changes from the adult compliance that may interfere with old settings.
Boy Lane # 18. October 2009, 05:04
No 1.22 Linux version in the moment, and I can't promise I make one. Next thing will be the Rainbow update.
Anonymous # 19. October 2009, 14:28
Thank you a lot for this version. I prefer very much 1.22 over 1.23 and I installed today your latest version of the 1.22 viewer. Great Work.
Hugs
Anonymous # 19. October 2009, 15:10
Sadly no change, optimized or not, this new version is not stable on the ATI 9800 Pro... (using the legacy 9.8 drivers, was using the 9.3 release before that)
Thanks, but, any other suggestions? :(
Boy Lane # 19. October 2009, 15:50
Go back to the 7.11 or DNA 8.12 drivers. Clean your existing drivers first completely. I had a X800 card a while back, crashed constantly. Henri suggested to buy Nvidia what I did and it was a difference like night and day. This year I thought to give ATi a try again with a 4870, kept it for a week before returning and exchanging to Nvidia

Hi Boy
Well, all I can say is a BIG thankyou to you for putting the effort into making 1.22.11 adult compliant. I've been running 1.22 CVs since you made the first one way back (in June was it?), and it is certainly the best, most stable viewer I have ever used.
Like most folk now, I'm using an nVidia card, a 9400GT 1GB, which has transformed my SL from a barely tolerable 12-15fps on minimum quality to 25-40 fps on ultra. Now I have an SL!
You have done it again, Boy!
Ayesha (dancing around, making a complete idiot of herself).
Anonymous # 20. October 2009, 15:22
Ok, after downloading and running the Cool_Viewer_1-22-11-0_R10a_Setup.exe file, I get the following from the shortcut or from attempting to open the exe file directly:
"C:\Program Files\CoolViewer\CoolViewer.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
I haven't had any trouble with any other versions in the past so I'm hoping I'm missing something very obvious this time around. It has been some time since my last installation.
This occurs with or without the current release client installed. No other clients are present.
Boy Lane # 20. October 2009, 15:33
This looks like a SSE2 problem. What CPU do you use, AthlonXP or P3? It should work with the full installer, not the SSE2 exe tho. Unless I made a mistake when building the normal version, it should be SSE only. Will check it.
The other possible reason is that you have no C++ runtime libs installed. You can get them here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=32BC1BEE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en
Anonymous # 20. October 2009, 16:08
the CPU is a Intel Core2 Duo E8500 3.16Ghz
also, the installer isn't creating a folder in the Application Data folder like the SL client does
and I tried again after running vcredist_x86.exe as well as after a restart
and after a uninstall and reinstall
no luck
currently going back to the 1-19-0-5 R59 release until I get a chance to mess with it again
Boy Lane # 20. October 2009, 16:44
Try one more thing, uninstall the 1.22 viewer, then delete all files under Application Data/CoolViewer (back up logs first if any). Then reinstall it. If that doesn't work I don't know....weird.
Anonymous # 21. October 2009, 00:02
running XP SP3
and that folder doesn't exist since I guess the client doesn't even get started
I ran the R9 in the past when it came out for a little while, to have agent UUIDs in the profiles, but went back to the 1-19-0-5 R59 as I just don't like the way that Windlight clients render area draw distance, but have grown to deal with it using the standard RC clients. I'm assuming it was a stand alone client and didn't need a base SL client already installed like the 1-19-0-5 R59.
So, just to clarify, I basically uninstalled all my clients, 1-23-5-136274 RC, 1-19-0-5 R59, no folders left anywhere and downloaded and installed the 1-22-11-0 R10a, the second I attempt to run it is when that error pops up.
I also redownloaded it and it does the same thing.
Boy Lane # 21. October 2009, 04:18
The last reason I could imagine are permission issues, and that your user account you login and start CV with is unable to write files into the Application Data folder. It may also be possible that you have some data corruption causing the same. So please check with your login if you can create a CoolViewer folder manually as C:\Documents and Settings\<login>\Application Data\CoolViewer>
Also I would run some chkdsk to make sure your files and folder structure is consistent.
CV 1.22 should be completely independent from SL or the 1.19 version and goes into it's own file structure.
A final idea, did you get the popup of the message about non-redistributable components and of the notecard at the end of the installation? If not perhaps your download was interrupted in the first place and the installation does not complete. Please try to redownload the installer.
Anonymous # 21. October 2009, 08:13
@Boylane
Thank you, so far so good on the http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Catalyst-7.11-XP-(32-bit)-download-1786.html drivers.
Uninstalled 9.3, rebooted, cleaned with the driver cleaner you also linked, rebooted, installed 7.11, rebooted, and running R10a so far for a little over 3 hours without an issue. Keeping my fingers crossed =)
Anonymous # 21. October 2009, 21:05
I just did a full uninstall of my older Cool Viewer and installed the SSE version of the new one. I've found a change in search->events -- it works fine until I check the Adult Content box; then results are returned with 7 blank lines plus the event listing line. Once that has happened there's no fixing it. I did a quick check of other search tabs and they all still work fine. Can anyone else reproduce this problem? I'll have to go back to the older viewer for now.
Boy Lane # 22. October 2009, 05:08
Yes, I saw that too, I could not really reproduce it, sometimes it worked just fine, sometimes I got the empty lines. I'll have to try again if the adult check box has something to do with it but I doubt it as it only triggers the search and doesn't format any results coming back.
CindyCD42Fairey # 22. October 2009, 16:00
Any chance those could be implemented with CV as well ? Rumor has it that it's a single .xml file but I don't know the details.
Thanks for the new update. I too had feared there might not be one. You efforts are most appreciated, boy.
Boy Lane # 22. October 2009, 18:51
No, I'm not looking at incompatible features like more attachment points or any other fancy stuff. If you want the latest greatest, go with Emerald. Too many people make viewers and try to outrun each other. No point in doing so. 1.22 is rock stable and blazing fast and so it should remain until the Lab kicks out all 3rd party viewers as they plan
Anonymous # 24. October 2009, 05:17
I'm getting the blank-lines-in-event-search problem regardless of whether Adult is checked... other than that, looking great so far. Thanks for updating this!
Anonymous # 24. October 2009, 17:47
OK, every time I hit the search button, it crashes. I've not actually enabled adult search, so that's not it. I was using the previous release fine.
There are a bunch of log files in the AppData/Roaming/Coolviewer directory. I can send those to you if you need them.
Boy Lane # 24. October 2009, 18:12
That happens when you did not do a clean install. Please delete the settings_1.22.xml file in your user_settings folder (in Application Data).
CindyCD42Fairey # 25. October 2009, 19:23
Not sure how much I'll be using the new points since the standard viewer doesn't yet support them, but my main objective was to be able to correctly see others who are using them.
No problems yet, but of course - your mileage may vary.
And don't go bugging Boy Lane if this causes strange problems. Make a backup of your avatar_lad file first and restore the backup if you have any trouble with this.
Enjoy,
Cindy

FYI, when I have "High Rez Screenshots" on and "quiet snapshots to disk" on, then "Snapshot to disk" nets me a very weird picture, like I've clicked into the center of a prim and the view both shrinks and gets magnified to a teeny part of the view.
Boy Lane # 26. October 2009, 04:10
Thanks, will have a look at it when I have more time.
@Sphynx
That's most likely the same with the official viewer. And I'm not going to try to fix all the Linden bugs
Anonymous # 26. October 2009, 20:48
@boylane
Thanks - I did install over the previous version.
Anonymous # 29. October 2009, 01:14
this girl likes RLV and you and your viewers want to say first off
there is a file called CoolViewer.exe.config
what is it?
is it needed?
I renamed the file and tried again and the viewer seems to be running.
Am I gonna have problems?
I was getting this: after downloading and running the Cool_Viewer_1-22-11-0_R10a_Setup.exe file, I get the following from the shortcut or from attempting to open the exe file directly:
"C:\Program Files\CoolViewer\CoolViewer.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."
my email: chrysilla_eom@yahoo.com
contact in SL: Hikari Oh
Anonymous # 29. October 2009, 03:37
The lab isn't planning to kick out all third party viewers - only the ones with abusive features. It remains to be seen how much of pain the registration process will be.
Any plans to do a Cool Snowglobe someday? A viewer with the fast texture loading of Snowglobe, RLV, and the improved graphics performance of your SSE2/OpenGL optimized viewer would be awesome...
Boy Lane # 29. October 2009, 04:31
You said you go the error message in the first place and removing the CoolViewer.exe.config fixed it? It's likely some mismatch between your local setup and my configuration then. The file is not needed to run the viewer.
@Shirley
No, I don't have the time for this and Snowglobe seems to be dead anyway. There may some parts be used in an upcoming SL 2.0, who knows. Not worth to spend much time with.

I'm a professional coder with decades of experience, I run a contracting business on the 'net doing linux coding and admin. I have coded for Windows in the past.
Boy Lane # 1. November 2009, 14:25
Feel free to make a Linux version, that's what opensource is all about. Occasionally I may also make one as in the past, but my time is limited. Right now that would be a netbook viewer for Ubuntu.
Anonymous # 3. November 2009, 05:38
For some reason, the search isn't working right. When I try to activate Mature viewing, it tells me I haven't selected how I want to search, even when the checkbox is ticked.
Boy Lane # 3. November 2009, 09:13
Where exactly does that happen? Which search? And did you enable the right level in preferences?
Anonymous # 4. November 2009, 21:56
@ Boy Lane and DJ
I have the same problem in the "ALl" search tabs (web and other) I assume there is a checkbox simply nto showing as I cannot select adult content (only a tick box for mature) and so the viewer does not know what to look for.. sorta. can you tell I have no clue what I am talking about? ;)
Anonymous # 4. November 2009, 22:07
Thanks so much for making this. Although, my wish is for temp image files like in Emerald. :D But I can deal without it. Your viewer is a god send! I can actually walk around the grid now and not crash every five seconds. I've never found a viewer that could let me do that!!
Thank you! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
Boy Lane # 5. November 2009, 03:34
You need to enable the "maturity level" in preferences first before you can use it in search.
Anonymous # 5. November 2009, 09:08
yes, did that. didn't help (and just to make sure I deleted the settings xml too)
it works fine in the other search tabs. just the "all" tabs give me a blue pop up saying that I need to "select at least one kind of content to search (PG, mature, or adult)" and no search results at all are given.
Anonymous # 5. November 2009, 11:56
okay.. some more there... I deleted all xml files in the application data, uninstalled Cool Viewer completely, installed it again. and still the same problem remains... BUT I found a difference in behaviour between verified and not verified avis.
My main (Nya) is verified. so in preferences I have "adult, mature, and PG" selected. yet in search I don't get an "adult" check box anywhere - I assumed that it simply comes with mature ticked.
my alt is not verified.. so can only select "mature and PG" in preferences. strangely I cannot even tick the "mature" tick box in the "all" search tabs with that one. they are displayed, but not clickable.
maybe that helps?
Boy Lane # 5. November 2009, 12:05
This must be something with either your setup or how SL treats your AVs
Did you remove the settings in the CoolViewer directory or in the SecondLife directory? These are not the same. Best would be to uninstall the viewer completely, then delete all files in Program Files\CoolViewer and in Application Data\CoolViewer and try a fresh installation from scratch.
Anonymous # 5. November 2009, 13:29
Hi Boy, I have the exact same problem as Nya and I also made a complete clean install but still I am getting the same problem. Also another thing I noticed is that in the All tab which is to the left of All(web) tab the option mature cannot be selected. I tried to select it but it just would revert to a blank checkbox. In the other tabs the mature check box can be selected. Also I can search adult places in the places tab, its only the All and All(web) tab that is triggering the blue popup Please Select atleast one type of content to search(PG,mature, adult). Is there a way to make the 'all' search work? Thanks :)
Anonymous # 5. November 2009, 16:37
@ Boy Lane
actually the only clients installed on my system are hte Cool Viewer and Rainbow Viewer (and once Rainbow Viewer adult compatible is there i am back to only Rainbow viewer lol)
I have no additional (original) SL client installed. the non-redistributables I pull from a back up folder, where i made a copy of only these files.
I uninstalled COolviewer AND Rainbow Viewer, deleted all xml files in the application data files, deleted the folders in programms, made a clean install. and yet the issue remains.
Anonymous # 5. November 2009, 16:38
and previous anonymous is me after a hot toddy... lol... sorry!
Anonymous # 9. November 2009, 23:01
Boy Lane, I love the Cool viewer and Rainbow version too. The only question I have is are we ever going to see a grid manager like Hippo has, or is the only way to edit grids going to be the grid.xml?
Anonymous # 11. November 2009, 16:22
I have a Lenovo S10 that uses the Intel Atom N270 CPU with the Intel 945 Express chipset. I loaded (in order) the Linden SL client, the Cool Viewer 1.22.11.0 R10a, and the OpenGL mod.
I have a very low frame rate. Any ideas? Did I install something I should not have?
