Boy Lane :: Cool Viewer for Windows

Odds and Ends from a Second Life

Cool Viewer 1.20.11.0 / 1.19.0.5 with RestrainedLife 1.11.3 (Group IM fixed)

[ NOTE: These are bugfixed versions, if you downloaded a RLV 1.11.2 build please get the new one ]

Here comes the latest update of the Cool Viewer with Marine's RestrainedLife 1.11.3. Two versions as always, one without Windlight based on release 1.19.0.5 for a bit slower machines and a bleeding edge (c) Nicholaz ;-) version based on the very latest RC 1.20.10.0. The really cool thing with this 1.20 is, it is de-dazzled, It features the old user interface the Cool Viewer is famous for :-). Henri did again a fantastic job with it.

As always, you need to install the Linden version first, then extract all archives of the CV archive over it. Please be carefull not to mix versions.

Official Linden viewer (install first)
http://download-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/Second_Life_1-19-0-5_Setup.exe

[REMOVED] Cool Viewer (extract over Linden Viewer):
http://files.myopera.com/boylane/files/SL/SecondLife_i686_1_19_0_5_CoolRelease_17_exe_xml_only.zip

Please note: THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL VIEWER WITH A LOT OF BUGS!

Linden Release Candidate viewer (install first)
http://release-candidate-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/Second_Life_1-20-10-89467_ReleaseCandidate_Setup.exe

[REMOVED] Cool Viewer (extract over Linden Viewer):
http://files.myopera.com/boylane/files/SL/SecondLife_i686_1_20_11_0_CoolRelease_2a_exe_xml_only.zip

Please note that due to the changed behaviour of the RestrainedLife viewer you may experience a crash when starting the viewer. In such a case simply delete all files in your cache folder and it should start normally. The cache files can be found at: C:\Documents and Settings\<login>\Application Data\SecondLife\cache for Windows XP or C:\Users\<login>\Appdata\roaming\secondlife\cache for Windows Vista.

Please direct problems in this regard to the RealRestraint updates & support group.

Enjoy!
Boy

Soo... no way to use the latest full release, then?

Hm... is it just me, or are all the new RestrainedLife features broken? The map and minimap hiding doesn't appear to do anything, and @getinv=1702 fails.

Can't answer on the mini-map / map....but @getinv works. Sharie Criss has a plugin out for Ame collars that provides control over a sub's Shared Folder by the Primary and Secondary Owners on the collar. This is in use and functioning fine.

I had no time to test any of the new features, I'm still trying to hunt down the crash at startup which a couple of people have. Marine can not reproduce it, I thought I can but it is more tricky than it looks like :smile:. If someone could please test the map feature? Thanks.

[UPD]Confirmed that Map and Mini-Map are working too.

Is there a way to force different Application Data folders for each install? This RC crashes before even loading the login page, and it's completely cleared my settings for my other install. Annoying as hell.

This may be a stupid question, but why is the LL ver# 1.20.8 and the CV ver# 1.20.9.0?

By anonymous user, # 3. June 2008, 09:27:01

@Anonymous1

You did not extract the whole archive over the RC or you extracted the files into a wrong place. Please make sure to not only extract SecondLife.exe, but overwrite all and every file. To start the Cool Viewer you need to run SecondLife.exe, not SecondLifeReleaseCandidate.exe, which the Linden shortcut points to per default.

To use separate settings you can add the following commandline switch to your SecondLife.lnk "-settings settings_CV.xml" (the name does not really matter, just make sure it is unique).

@Anonymous2

The viewer is based on a newer SVN source than available for download on the SecondLife website.

Hm... (I'm the anonymous who pointed out the problem with RL last time), the map and mini-map don't work here. Nothing at all happens.

Sorry to comment for a second time, but I think I found the issue. I'm using the non-RC (and non-WL) version this time, 1.19.0.5... and when I called "@version=0" on myself, here's what I got:

[12:34] You: RestrainedLife viewer v1.10.5.2 (SL 1.19.0.5)

I guarantee it was a fresh install of this version. Maybe you put the new RL into the RC version but not the old one?

I have the same problem as above, the RC freezes during login... could you do me a favor, Boy, and not use an RC as a base again? Please? *puppy eyes*

@Hikaru

You are absolutely right. Silly me put the new version in her Secondlife folder but not in the archive :wink:. Please redownload again, it is corrected now.

@Anonymousies with problems

I thought the install instructions are simple :smile:. But someone always has problems. The RC runs just fine. I will upload a full version in a second. Please try this, it should work.

Small update, 1.19.0.5 is in R15, 1.20.10.0 in R3.

I just uploaded all new builds for 1.19.0.5 and 1.20.11.0 which fix the issue that Group IMs were not blocked in RLV mode. Update of the 1.20 RC to v1.20.11.0 as well. This version seems to have the login problems (first attempt failed) fixed. At least for me :smile:

I've just uploaded a new Cool Viewer build 1.20.11.0_2 that fixes the Group IM bug (IM's were not blocked) and some minor cosmetic issues. These changes are not in Marine's RLV yet as she has currently not much time to test and verify them. I'd kindly ask you to test if everything works now as expected and give feedback about remaining issues.

Well I uploaded the latest candidate release with teh bug fixes.

I have no clue wiaht they fixed, because in their release notes it clearly says one of the fixes was the problem of having to log in twice to get online.

Well no change. Cool Viewer works fine with it, but it still takes two times you log in

Regards,

sam

while trying to login i noticed an interesting thing..if you press the connect button as soon as you see the cool viewer window..then you login at the first attempt..it takes a little longer time..but you get in at the first attempt..thought to let all the others know..:wink:

Again, the latest CV 1.20.11.0 fixed the double login problem for me and others. I assume you are using this version. The issue is closed in Jira.

However there is a second open case in Jira which relates to login problems. It is not CV related: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7403

Run the cadidate by it's self it works.

Run with the cool viewer and the following:

1 - do not get an opening screen. It is just blank.

2 - Still get the update your viewer notice, even though i am running it.

3 - Can not click on the ypate notice, but i can click on the bottom notices.

4 - Does not log in the first tme period.

5 - After the first attempt i still get a black screen, meaning the picture is missing and then it will connect and works fine.

Anything on 19.1.4 and rlv 11?

By anonymous user, # 15. June 2008, 23:33:59

@Samanta

Please update to CV 1.12.11.0 (changed some days ago in the postings), this fixes the login issue. Regarding the update notice, all 3rd party viewers show this now. It has only to do with the dynamic creation of the html page at startup, not with the actual version connecting to SL. You can safely ignore it. Or rather. don't try to update!

@Anonymous

There will not be any further updates for CV 1.19.1.4. This was a buggy intermediate release and it doesn't make any sense to spend any more work on this as 1.20 will go official soon. The stable release is currently 1.19.0.5 with RLV 1.11.3 which does not include Windlight.

-Channel foo or -multiple is not working - i didnt like always to change my viewer as long as linden doesnt know what they are doing and they still put out new, unfixed viewers.

By anonymous user, # 20. June 2008, 00:20:43

First, from 1.20 onwards you have to use 2 dashes, not one as in "--multiple". Details are here and were mentioned in this blog before :smile:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Client_parameters

Secondly, the 1.20 is of course unfixed. It is an experimental Release Candidate. So what? :wink:

By boylane, # 20. June 2008, 03:33:06

In regards to the anonymous comment above, that's why these viewers are Release CANDIDATES, not releases. We're helping LL test when we use them. If you want a stable viewer, go back to 1.19.1.4 or 1.19.0.5 and live without the extra nice stuff.
