brim4brim's blog of madness

the madness blog of

Joe Satriani

Hi everyone and anyone P:

So last week I went to see Joe Satriani in Vicker St. in Dublin.

Its was great craic. I don't normally listen to his stuff that much but really enjoyed it. I was there with a friend who is a big fan of it and another friend who isn't that into it.

The place had a lot of people in it but it wasn't too packed which was good. Even during the concert, you could easily make your way to the bar.

I'll upload some photo's if people want at some stage but they aren't at good quality. My friend had an SLR camera and I'll steal some of his pics at some stage or post a link to his bebo page where he has them hosted.

Site name change

, , , ...

Okay so my favourite hang out has undergone another name change

Now its called http://exiledgamers.com and you are all invited. We want gamers from all consoles (preferably no die hard fanboys :worried: ) and you don't have to be a hardcore gamer.

We have gamers from across a lot of age groups from teens to 40 something year olds so give us a look see if you want a game or something or if you want to join a clan, we'll certainly be open to that too. Its very relaxed on the site so just be yourself and start a welcome thread if you join.

If you do join, watch out for COW! <==Will be explained soon after you join.

Its free of course and there is no spam or any weird crap like that as its just regular VBulletin type forum. I'm a moderator over there

Anyway if that isn't your thing but you like chatting with gamers and the like, I also have a shoutmix for gamers from the site to chat. Our site is partnered with an Xbox site called ATC so its a mix from these two users but your welcom to join in, just mention your from MyOpera.com. Preferably though you should join Exiled first to introduce yourself to everyone or ATC if you can get in (they manually validate members so you have to be accepted).

Been a while

, , , ...

So its been a while. Some news eh?

I got a Wii at last and am currently playing Metroid Prime 3 which rocks. Mario Kart is out soon in Europe so I'll be getting that (think its out tomorrow actually). I got the Opera Web browser for Wii and it does indeed rock. I like watching Youtube on my tv. You do need the component cable for Wii if you want to be able to easily read text on the screen though.

I finished R6V on 360 (yes the first one). God did not want me to get that game. I bought it at retail in Feb last year and my brother borrowed it after I played the first level! He broke the disc and I had to get a new copy which I ordered from Play.com at Christmas as the price came down to 30 Euro which was good because I wasn't paying 60 Euro again for a game I'd already bought!

Well short story, shorter, it arrived about a month ago so that was about 4 months postage time, nice! I think it must have gotten lost in the post because Play shipped it within a day or two. Irish Post is usually very reliable so I wasn't really that mad about it.

Anyway the game is good enough I suppose although a little frustrating. Won't take me away from Guitar Hero 3 though which rocks. I can now play on Expert and am most of the way through it on hard (trying to get through Metallica One without being killed).

That's pretty much it from the gaming side of things. Going to Scotland at some point this year with friends and I got head butted by a friend on Monday night when we went drinking so he burst my lip by accident. That wasn't very pleasant and still stings a bit when I touch it. What are ya going to do?

Halo 3

, , , ...

Wow, I've been playing Halo 3 and it's great craic (craic = Irish for fun). If you've not tried it, what's wrong with you?

I bought it and played 15 minutes into the story when my friend called over with a new controller he bought to play Halo 3 (he doesn't own a 360 though  ). Anyway so we started playing split screen local game for a while and I beat him each time which made up for it. We then took turns playing online on my Live account. That was all on Wed and I didn't get to play Halo again until today for various reasons (work).

On Saturday, I went to the Xbox Live Gaming Centre (XLGC) in Dublin which was a lot of fun but had its problems. The first being they didn't have Halo 3 and we found this out after turning up which is after the organisers rang to ensure they had it and that our day was booked weeks in advance. The second problem was our booking was booked :furious: . Anyway we played COD 3, Halo 2 and Shadowrun instead and we had some competitions for some cheap enough prizes. I got a Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta t-shirt, keyring with light (fancy) and a Flash memory stick 128MB (small but strong, similar to a dog tag I guess). The day was organised by some of the guys at http://www.xbox360exile.com which is a great place to hang out and the owner of the site came by to see how things were going which was cool.

He also thanked me for my articles that I have written for the site. I wrote a couple of articles for the magazine over there which you should all check out :D and I wrote a review for the game Just Cause for the site.

It's Sunday now and I was playing Halo 3 again today and got a bit into the single player campaign which is very good after you get into it (takes a while to get going). I then played for a bit online with some of the guys from Xbox360-exile.com before my housemates asked me to stop playing so they could watch tv. They've asked me to move my 360 from the living room which is fair enough but it's my HDTV so its coming too because we don't have Sky HD so there is no real point in leaving it down there IMO. I have another 20" which I'll leave downstairs for them. My HDTV is only 32" so it's not that big a step down for them and it is a nice 20" tv which I should really try to sell but I don't want to move my tv and sell that one and upset everyone in the house.

Anyway since I'm moving my 360 upstairs, I'll now need a wireless adapter as the LAN cable I'm using ATM isn't 100 feet long (note some exageration on the cable length required). I'm looking for a cheap one and have put in a bid at ebay and am hoping to get one for about 30 Euro or GBP £21. I've run into an article on how to use your laptops wireless to connect your 360 to Xbox Live so I'll go down that route if I can't get a wireless adapter for 30 Euro or less because its a bloody rip off at retail prices. I got wireless for my laptop for 15 Euro so why the hell would I pay almost 100 quid for the 360's wireless which only lets me play games online when I can do that on Pc along with access the Internet via web browser etc...

Anyway enough ranting and raving, hope anyone that bothers reading this nonsense had a good weekend.

COD 4 Beta (shortest review ever!)

, , , ...

So I signed up for this limited release beta and got it from the Xbox Live marketplace. So far I'm not sure if its so much fun because I know there are other people that can't play or because the game is actually this good. Either way I'm sure the alcohol I drank while playing made it more fun and made my score much worse.

This game is stupidly well thought out. The control scheme is perfect, the graphics are superb and the weapons are well weighted and easy to get used to.

So far the only real problem I have with the beta is the menu systems are terrible and unintuitive and at times broken. The actual game is fine and I already have it as a must have as I've not had this much fun playing online since HL and HL2 multiplayer deathmatches.

Because its been a while

Thought I post something because its been a while. I have the Opera community on my speed dial in Ubuntu Linux but not in windows and I've been using windows lately so sort of forgot about the place :yikes:

Anyway, so recently I've gone to watch the Bourne Ultimatum. I thought it was a good movie and love the triology but I have to sasy that I thought there was too much shakey camera work in it. You could tell the fight scenes were good but you couldn't see what was going on in them properly. A bit annoying IMO.

I got a new tv for my 360, a 32" LG from Komplett.ie. Only 700 Euro which is a good price for that tv. Great quality now I need to get a VGA cable so I can the 360 to upscale my DVD's for me.

I have setup TVersity folders so now I can stream music/movies/pictures from my laptop to my 360 and it'll do codec conversion on the fly so no changing formats of my entire libraries to suit Microsoft. It rocks!

I got worms for the 360 Live Arcade for 800 Ms points. While the price is higher than I think it should be, the game is good craic and will no doubt give hours of drunken worm killing with friends as I did with the original on Playstation in college.

Friends birthday yesterday :hat: so went drinking with him and a few friends :drunk: . Good craic but my stomach is a little upset with me today for drinking from about 17:30 to 02:30. Oh well, I never liked my stomach anyway.

Die Hard 4

, ,

Hey, thought I'd update this. Not a regular blogger so don't expect my life story here  . I'm sure your crushed!

Went to see Die Hard 4 with the guys in work on Thursday and thought it was great! The drink probably helped  but everyone enjoyed it. Similar to the other Die Hard movies so if you liked those, you'll probably like this one.

First post, woot

Good evening, kind sir and thank you for viewing my blog. Tis merely a test entry be this. As such, all it has is a quote from Monty Python's, The Holy Grail.

Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
