The Newlywed Knitter!

Curse you, injured thumb!

So yesterday I was chopping cabbage (I promise that this gets more interesting), and managed to slice right into the side my left thumb. It's a good thing I have strong nails, cuz I think that's the only thing that stopped the blade. Never have I realized how important the left thumb is until today. Right now I'm casting on for a nice summer top. For the second time. It was painful the first time, doing 63 stitches before running out of tail, when I really needed 90 stitches with some left over. I've had problems with this yarn before. I love the bright turqoise, but there's just something about it that doesn't like to work for me. And now it's catching in the cut. Yes, I realize I could wear a bandaid...but then the yarn catches on the sides of the band-aid even worse, pulling and moving the thing and still resulting in pain.

But anyways, about the knitting. The pattern is from White Lies Designs. It's the "Shapely" tank top. It's a free pattern from White Lies Designs website, but the designer has patterns for other absolutely gorgeous garments for purchase. However, I'm not skilled enough with the more complex concepts that the other paterns require, like lacework, button-holes, shortrows, and cables. This piece features shortrows, and is the project Knitty Online Magazine uses to teach shortrows. The yarn that I'm using is Hobby Lobby's "I LOVE This Yarn!" in Turqoise - 100% acrylic, since Shaun wants me to use some of my stash instead of getting a nice cotton blend, and I have 3 big skeins of it. Oh, and I got gauge on the first try. That helps alot. Plus, since it's cheap, I won't mind nearly as much if my Shapely Tank is more lumpy than anytihng else.

I justify the yarn, because it puts off actually having to cast-on again. But I believe I've run out of things to say about the yarn. If things go well (or not) with the short rows, I'll post again soon!

Congratulations! It's an egg!Weekend update!
