During the darkest hours of the night,we see the beauty of the stars

Good things come through times of sorrow

The reluctant knight

, ,

This post is for second round of Opera contest. I hope you all enjoy it and I'd so appreciate if it can be favorited by you ^ _ ^.

Night breathes so softly that I just can hear a huge quiet covering the sleeping city. I love watching my Hanoi at night from my window but tonight I have no mood to think of it. The deadline of second round for opera contest is getting closer but I haven't thought out of any good idea yet. Leaving the chaotic thinkings I take a look to my shelves and take out a random book. It's a foreign legend story about a princess prisoned and waiting for her prince to rescue. An old motif, I carelessly read but suddenly a blinking line catches my eyes " Do you want an adventure ?" Why I haven't seen it before? But no time for me to think longer. When those words enter my mind I suddenly feel sucked into the book. When I get aware I find myself in a strange place, not beautiful and colorful like in my first journey. There are so many people in ancient european clothes. I'm standing right in the middle of a court decorated by high grey walls, many soldiers around me with sharp swords and lances. I can't help being surprised and trying to understand where am I but this thought is broken by a voice raising in front of me.

- Welcome you here, Lion Knight. You will be treated like to all knight who have come to my kingdom. I hope you'll bring the honor to your tribe who has put much hope in you. A beautiful princess and many valuables will be your award if you can pass all the challenges we've set up.

It's the voice of the king who's sitting in a gorgeous throne in front of me. Till now I suddenly notice I'm bearing a strange appearance. I'm a man I swear! I'm in the body of a burly man with a heavy armour and a long sword with the lion symbol. My god, I thought the such a thing just happens in Hollywood movies! But now it really happens to me and I'm trying to get aware about what to do.

It's a very short time to think. I'm immediately brought out the court and a large forrest expands out of my sight. The guider says:
- Let's see. It's your trials. You have to pass this forrest to rescue the beautiful princess prisoned in a tower at the end of your journey. But remember there will be many obstacles that can stop you. You can't move back otherwise you will be killed immediately. Use your head and your solid arms. Good luck.
He disappears fastly and here am I standing. No way, I'M IN A STRANGE PLACE, IN A STRANGE APPEARANCE WITH AN UNEXPECTED MISSION AND I HAVE TO ACCEPT IT TO SURVIVE!

I go into the forrest and find it pretty nice. Where is my first trial? I don't need to wait for so long. A big tiger is coming close to me. He roars loudly and jumps upon me. Like an instinct I raise the sword rapidly and stab it strongly into the tiger . I don't know how could I do that but I did it successfully and the tiger is laying beside my feet. I won! The second lesson: IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION YOU MIGHT USE YOUR INSTINCT TO SURVIVE!

I continue my journey and here is a river with the strong flow. There is no boat and I don't know how to pass the river yet. But I notice there are many big trees around the riverside. I try to keep calm and think how to use them to make a raft. Then I use my sword to chop down some trunks of the trees and with the ropes twining my waist I bind them to each other tightly. My raft is done and I can use it to pass to other side. And here is the third thing to remember: DON'T EXPECT ALL THE THINGS TO BE READY FOR YOU. YOU MIGHT LEARN TO DO SOMETHING YOU'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE TO GO ON!

The road in front of me is thorny and I don't know where it leads to. I can't know exactly the direction. While I'm thinking of it I suddenly fall down into a hole. When I stand up I realize I can't climb up because it's a very deep one. I try to throw up the rope I have but it can't reach the top of hole. Do I stay here forever? No, I can't give up. I go around the bottom of hole and think. Using the "knowledge" I've got from Hollywood movies I touch all the faces around and listen to any voice echoing to me. Maybe one hour passed. Suddenly I hear a stream babbling near to my place. This sound leads me to a small cellar and follow it I see the sky again. I breathe the fresh air and think of the fourth I've just got: NEVER GIVE UP EVEN IN THE HARD SITUATION. LISTEN TO ENVIRONMENT AROUND YOU AND YOU'LL FIND THE WAY TO GET OUT!

When I'm continuing my journey (I must admit that I'm quite tired and hungry) I suddenly hear a scream near to me."Help, help!" . I run to the direction where the voice is given. I see a man sinking down into a bog. I throw my rope to him and try to pull him out from the bog. Finally with the strength of a burly man I did it successfully. He thanks and says he can't go with me but shows me the way to the towel where "my sweet award" stays. This is a very precious information to me. The fifth lesson is established: NEVER IGNORE TO HELP PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T KNOW HOW MUCH HELPFUL THEY'RE TO YOU. TWO"HEADS" ARE ALWAYS BETTER THAN ONE!

I go nearer to the bog that I have to pass but haven't known the way to do. A very big strange crocodile with two horns suddenly appears and plunges into me. With the expriences I've gotten from the journey I quickly jump on its back, grab two horns and ride the crocodile to pass the bog. The crocodile tries to escape out of my hands but as the guider says, I have the very solid arms. A greatly useful "transport"! During riding I can't help thinking of the new thing learned from the situation: YOU CAN USE EVERYTHING EVEN THE DANGEROUS ENEMY TO BE YOUR MEANING TO GET OUT, IF YOU STILL WANT NOT TO SAY GOOD BYE TO LIFE SO EARLY!

After saying farewell to the "small" crocodile that is looking at me with dreadful eyes and running far away from me, I see a lake. A big, gorgeous tent and a beautiful lady with sexy clothes is seeming to wait for me. She comes to me, invites me to go into the tent with a charming voice. I really very want to go there to take some rests but the gesture of this lady stirs an unsafe feeling inside me. I try not to be pulled into this tent with all my effort though the arms of hers trying to hold me tight . I see I did right because when I totally get out of her and look back, I see the tent is changing the form into a disgusting cave with many bones. It's a trap. I feel a bit shuddering to think I could be the next victim. YOU HAVE TO BE VIGILANT NOT TO FALL INTO THE DEAD TRAPS WITH CHARMING FORMS. Yes, it's exactly what I'm thinking.

Till now I feel very exhausted because I have spent many hours without eating, drinking and resting. I lay on the rock near to a big dry . Actually I'm spending an unwanted adventure that I don't know can I get to the end or not. And I see an image flickering before my eyes. I see a big house with a plentiful meal, cool drinks and a warm bed. I try to touch them but the more I try, the more it gets far from me. Then I try to remember it's only an illusion that often happens to the people in the same case like mine. With this thought I try to get the positive mood again and not to see that image any more. I take decisive steps and feel better. As I guess the image fastly disappears. I go on and the eighth thought doesn't miss the chance to run through my head. DON'T BE CHEATED BY A PHANTOM BECAUSE IT CAN LEAD YOU TO A WRONG FEELING AND KEEP YOU WORSE. KEEP FOCUSING ON THE REALITY.

Finally I see the tower after going across two hills. It's a high tower with a dark and sharp top. A huge and fierce dragon guards the tower not to let anyone violate this place. Maybe it's the last obstacle I have to overcome. I remember how the knights kill dragons and monsters in the movies I've seen. Right sword, right position. I have to thrust my sword into it's heart. I look at the sword and it's sudenly ablaze with the light like a pride. Right now, this time, I can be a true hero. I feel so proud and in a moment, I forget the truth that I'm only a girl in a man's body! I'm getting to the top of the tower. The dragon is plunging into me. I raise the sword and with a strong action, the dragon falls down under my feet. Bravo! Here is the ninth : THE "KNOWLEDGE" FROM WATCHING TV IS NOT ONLY ENTERTAINING. IT CAN BE HELPFUL IN SOME WAYS FOR YOU TO BE ALIVE!

I run to the door opening slowly and see a beautiful princes in a white graceful dress standing beside the window. She turns to look at me with the grateful eyes and an extreme happiness displaying on her face. I smile, at least I can save one life finally! But what I couldn't think is she hugs me so tight and I'm so shy, difficult to evade it and want to explain for her that I'm a girl! But she says while still holding me:
- Do you know that you are the most handsome knight I've met? The others can't be as cute as you are!
My god, am I not the first who rescues her? Is it a game? Only for etertainment? The way she holds me seems to be proffesional! She seemed to be trained to hug all the knights! I try to evade her warm hugs and and run out of the tower with a high speed. Finally I get out! I've spent many trials and, been a reluctant knight the final lesson I've got is : THE AWARD CAN BE DANGEROUS SOMETIMES FOR THE WINNER and LET'S RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN IF YOU WANT NOT ONLY TO SURVIVE! Hehe!

And then something happens. Like my first adventure, I find myself in my old place again. So happy to return my normal self, not in a strange gesture any more. The clock shows 2h am. I don't feel tired but very excited to write all the things I've spent. It can be the good material for my entry. TOP 10 LESSONS TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU'RE ALONE IN A STRANGE PLACE AND FIGHT TO SURVIVE. And now, you all have known it already.

Friend of mine linked that to me to proof that "women are too dumb to write" and said "look she's even too stupid to make a top 10 list".
This is an opinion I always have been disagreeing on, though, and your article is no exception. :D Very creative and imaginatively written. +fav, of course!

Linh's writings involve deep meanings, the true feelings with wonderful way of chosing words. Let's read all her writings. "women are too dumb to write", though I'm a man but I can't welcome these words. I don't know who said it but he/she has a shallow idea about it:)

Lasha 9. September 2009, 15:05

You wrote very well. I like your way of leading the story . Fave it.

Gyrobo 9. September 2009, 17:40

Tyler Parke Young 10. September 2009, 14:38

You seem to be saying that the knight thinks she is a "professional" prisoner. Am I right?:coffee:

SweetLinh 10. September 2009, 14:41

CorniMac: At first thank you very much for visiting here to tell all of it. I dont know who is your friend who said that but i want to say something. As i always say to my friends, i love writing and always keep the positive attitude to all other writings . I believe that writing is not a privilege of only men but for all people no matter the gender, age, country, carreer. No matter they are valued nice or not but they all derseve to be repsected because they are from the hearts and the authors put much effort to make them. So i cant agree with the opinion" women are too dumb to write". I think my writing can get many responds an not always all people like my writings, but its normal, i welcome and appreciate all opinions even the negative but not the way of saying behind me! If someone doesnt dare to say it to me straightly , face to face, so i think i dont need to care about it, dont need to prove anything because it cant change anything in my life, all what make the person i am and im proud im always true to all people.
Thanks again for coming here and giving your support, i appreciate it. Good luck and best wishes to you friend.
Linh

SweetLinh 10. September 2009, 14:46

Tyler: haha, yes, i meant it P:. A professional prisoner :D. As i said, i dont want a "happy ending" because i dont tell you all a classic story :ko: :D . You like it? :D

SweetLinh 10. September 2009, 14:49

SweetLinh 10. September 2009, 15:09

Gyrobo: pls read what i wrote in the case of the story. I say TWO "HEADS", not two heads or two-headed . I hope you understand what i meant. Anyway, thanks for visiting and reading mine.

Tyler Parke Young 10. September 2009, 15:10

Yes, it was a good twist. By the way, most of the really great writers in history have been women. Sometimes they wrote under a "man's" name, for some reason.

SweetLinh 10. September 2009, 15:19

Do you especially like some writers who are woman? I like many writers , about woman I like Jane Austen and Agatha Christy.

Tyler Parke Young 10. September 2009, 15:22

I have read all of Jane Austins books and many of Agatha's, but not all of them yet. Those are two of my favorite writers.

Kuma 10. September 2009, 15:36

Beautiful story, very exciting with so many trials overcome brilliantly, as when the beautiful stories of the tent, reminds me of the sirens of Ulysses in the Odyssey. I have not read the other competitors and I can not make comparisons but I think that eventually you will not many rivals to win the final ....:hat:    flirt

Gyrobo 10. September 2009, 22:01

It is quite a complex, intriguing narrative.

I know I voted for it.

Minh Huong 11. September 2009, 00:09

I know how the friend you are  and I'm happy with your friendship . Have a very wonderful day dear Linh flirt

Quite my opinion - and I'm happy to live in a country where equal rights for men and women are set in the basic law and more or less the public opionion
And more about female writers

Okay, the question wasn't for me, but I'll answer it anyway cause I saw you're Vietnamese. My favourite writer is also Vietnamese  (well, at least half :D) I doubt that she's very well known outside Germany, but her name is Jenny-Mai Nguyen (although she publishes under the name Jenny-Mai Nuyen so it's easier to pronounce for Germans) and she writes great fantasy novels.

Tyler: they had not the same writing style but because i love thriller and romance books :D. In their era, it was more difficult for women to write and be acknowledged.
But you know my best fave writers are men. Sydney Sheldon, Tagore, Cao Xue Qin, I dont doubt you know SS and Tagore but maybe you have never heard of Cao Xue Qin :D.
