Conservatories - Too Hot in Summer

When I ask most of my prospective clients why they are thinking of building a conservatory, they generally tell me they want the additional room to use as a dining room, playroom for the children, home office etc, it is a variety of reasons and I get a number of answers but when I properly another question I always obtain the same answer.
Double Glazing Swindon-Double Glazing Wells-Double Glazing Dorset-Double Glazing Somerton
Do you want so as to enjoy the room all year round? The answer is always Yes!

Yet, if you ask most people who have already got a conservatory if they can use it all year round, especially if the conservatory receives a great deal of direct sunshine, i. e is South facing, they will say no, certainly not in the height of Summer.

This is reasonably a common situation, most people pay a substantial amount of attention to the basic size and design with the conservatory, but almost none to your thermal performance of the room in your home, especially its solar heat get.

Assuming that your conservatory is structurally sound the following most important consideration is the thermal performance with the room and if your conservatory is South facing then the thermal heat gain performance is the key measurement for you to consider.

There is good news for the people people considering a conservatory that will receive a great deal of direct sunshine and that may be the recent advances in nanocoating technology. Essentially this means that glass can be coated with an almost translucent metallic coating that reflects solar heat gain faraway from the conservatory and radiated heat you create back in to the room. The coatings go to the internal face of the a glass, facing into the cavity of the double-glazed sealed units and so can not be worn away and should last a lifetime. The improvement in the thermal performance is pretty remarkable.

Solar Transmission

Standard Increase Glazed sealed unit 72%

Most advanced technology sealed unit 22%

You are able to see just what a tremendous difference this will make.

In the past, when most conservatories were built using a polycarbonate roof, there were solutions to prevent excessive summer heat build up, by using heavily tinted polycarbonate roof sheets. These do control Solar Transmission, but only at the money necessary Light Transmission. You can get a conservatory that is not necessarily too hot in Summer, but the conservatory will feel dark for a dull day and the loss of light leading in to the room of the house leading in to the conservatory can be a real problem.
