Patriotism
Is patriotism just a propaganda exercise. Loyalty to our country is instilled in us during childhood. Past wars are celebrated to the point of glorification. The flag and the anthem are regularly celebrated symbols. It is human nature that acting on a belief reinforces the belief. There is nothing wrong with having pride in ones country or nationality, but patriotism can go too far. If patriotism is instilled during childhood, which is most common, it can result in blind loyalty. A feeling that ones own country is superior to all others and unquestioning acceptance that everything our country (Government) does is right. This blind loyalty can prevent us from seeing issues from the perspective of another country. It is illogical to think that a whole country could be evil. There may be a bad government or dictator, but it would be reasonable to assume that the ratio of good people to bad people would be similar in all countries. Even democracies can elect a bad government.

That is true. Like any form of love, nationalism blinds us into seeking our own selfish interests, without thinking of the perspectives and realities of others.
Everybody is a freedom fighter in their own eyes, and a terrorist in their opponent's.
At the same time no explanation can justify the slaughter of innocent human beings.

What is a terrorist? I think - someone seeking revenge for an injustice or hurt they have suffered.
War or terrorism are not a very civilised way to settle a dispute. In the end there has to be a resolution by communication (talking)- that can be done without the violence.
Thanks for your comment Shaunak.
