MY FARM

The (relations of mine) family of Mum, Dad and 2 young girls set off by car to have a holiday at the seaside. They live in Alice Springs, Central Australia, so their destination, Cairns in the far north-east of Australia, is a distance of about 2,500 kilometres by car. It poured rain for the whole time they were in Cairns so there was little they could do. Meanwhile the road back to Alice Springs was completly cut by floodwaters at Mount Isa so they had to make a detour through Broken Hill and Port Augusta to get back home. This was a distance of about 4,000 kilometres. So they travelled a total of 6,500 kilometres, mostly through hot dessert landscape, just to have a few days at the seaside.
