BUREWALA: The canal breach caused devastation to hundreds acres of cotton, paddy, maize and vegetables near Chak No. 227/EB early Sunday morning; The farmers of the area appealed Punjab Chief Minister to declare their area as calamity hit to meet their losses.
Reportedly, a sudden breach in 3-L distributary inundated hundreds acres of cotton, paddy and vegetables and water also entered in the mud house of localities and caused devastation while Irrigation, Revenue department joint team in a rescue operation shifted the people of the area to safe places. The irrigation department officials have formed a team to repair the breach at the earliest and they hired excavator and tractors to fill 25-foot long gap and managed to over come it after 12-hours long efforts. The farmers of the area appealed Punjab Chief Minister to declare their area as calamity hit to meet their losses. Senior Provincial Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad ordered an enquiry and ordered the officials to expedite their efforts to stop devastation.
