Project Peria

Real inside outside living

In which our intrepid hero constructs a rather special deck and worries about power.

Just working on the drop down deck to go with the 4.8.meter sectional door
that came free with the container. Still not totally finished but the
mechanism is all in place and working like a dream.

This is quite a complex part of the workshop/residence. When complete it will not only allow total
access into and out of the building it will function as an access for
large parts of the main house, ie, large windows and other parts that can
be constructed in the workshop and moved out to the house with little
effort. The sectional door has been great with all this heat but still
needs some tweaking to make it truly weather proof, which wasn't as bad as
I thought even during last weeks storm.
The solar water heating is a bit hit and miss, you can only get a hot
shower around mid-day, this will be fixed by using a domestic hot water
cylinder as storage and a washing machine pump to circulate the water
through the system switched by a simple thermostat at the head of the
collector, I'll get onto that in the next few days after I finish the deck.
Lots of tweaking going on at the moment. The power seems to be a bit
sluggish so I will take a look at that when the sun goes down, it's bloody
hot on that roof during the day, I suspect I have a problem with one of
the panels which has glass damage and may have got a soaking last week.
Fingers crossed it's just a question of alignment and I intend to
relocate them anyway along with an automatic steering system once I get my
head around the concept. I have an idea about using those cheap solar
powered garden lights to activate the steering motor but not sure how
cloudy skies would affect it, maybe a timed seeking system rather than a
"follow the sun" type system. We shall see.
Cheers for now,
Steve.
