Should tobacco be made illegal?

Government labels on tobacco means it's been inspected and taxed. The labels on cigarettes warn the user about the dangers of what they're about to ingest. Since the cigarette companies certainly don't want to, I appreciate that someone is. I think any marketing for a legal good for adults that is targeted for adults and put where only they're likely to be is fine. If that keeps cigarette companies from selling more cigarettes to minors, good. Cigarettes are poisonous over the long term, and addictive. Anyone who chooses to smoke them should be of an age to understand the risk thy're taking. We reserve those kinds of choices to adults, not children. Citizens are considered adults at 18 in America, so that's when they get to decide if cigarettes are something they want to enjoy, despite the risks. When it comes to cigarettes, taxes can actually mitigate the harm they cause. The fact that all of these sensible restrictions happens to cause less cigarettes to be sold isn't really the idea behind any of these measures, but it is a favorable side effect. People want to be able to smoke cigarettes. Trying to stop them will only create more criminals and cause many more problems than it solves, an worse yet, it won't stop smoking. We literally have a thousand better things to spend our efforts and money on.
