Heavy metal: criminally neglected genre

The other night I was watching the Metal documentaries on BBC4, the main one being Heavy Metal Britannia and it struck me just what a paltry selection of archive footage the BBC seemed to have of the genre, highlighting just how neglected and reviled it's been over the decades by mainstream TV (and radio for that matter). Considering the longevity of many metal bands and it's popularity this is scandalous.

Of course, the fact that it's popularity is mainly centred around the midlands and the north rather than the chew-them-up-and-spit-them-out latest-youth-cult obsessed south-east probably has something to do with it. (Bitter, moi?)

On the up side, listening to the Sabbath guys etc reminded me just how much I like Brummie accents (and me a Mancunian...!). The fact that it seems to be tailor made for the deadpan delivery of sarcasm and irony is part if the attraction, I suppose. I guess that I also have positive associations with the city, too, which probably factors into the equation.

Dodgy science and equally dodgy reportingWho the heck can I vote for now?

I think its the same with much of Prog and Metal in that it was never "Hip" for the TV luvvies therefore it was rarely filmed, ofb corse it was never really popular was it only selling hundreds of millions of albums and bringing the likes of Ozzie and Bruce wealth beyond the dreams of men
Talking of accents lovely to hear a good Black Country twang from Mr Robert Halford,he apparently owns half of Shropshire as well

Mr Halford also seemed to be remarkably down to earth, too, with that remark about shopping in Morrisons.
