Its alright, that some guy is not able to draw well.
Its not alright when some moron manager approves this piece of shit to replace great set of icons that was considered among the best sets ever created.
A small number of you may have problems signing in to Skype. We're investigating the cause, and hope to have more details to share soon.
It LOOKS like "i am signed in", but "all my contacts are offline".
Seems like its back ? Lets hope, lets hope...
A configuration problem has meant that some of you have been disconnected from Skype.
We've identified the cause of the problem, and have begun to address it. If you've been affected, you should start to see improvement in the next hour or so. You shouldn't need to manually sign back in to Skype - it should reconnect automatically when it's able to do so.
We apologise for the disruption to your conversations.
Official statement - http://blogs.skype.com/en/2010/12/skype_downtime_today.html (Site is not very available, so i just copypasted the whole text.)
Earlier today, we noticed that the number of people online on Skype was falling, which wasn’t typical or expected, so we began to investigate.
Skype isn’t a network like a conventional phone or IM network – instead, it relies on millions of individual connections between computers and phones to keep things up and running. Some of these computers are what we call ‘supernodes’ – they act a bit like phone directories for Skype. If you want to talk to someone, and your Skype app can’t find them immediately (for example, because they’re connecting from a different location or from a different device) your computer or phone will first try to find a supernode to figure out how to reach them.
Under normal circumstances, there are a large number of supernodes available. Unfortunately, today, many of them were taken offline by a problem affecting some versions of Skype. As Skype relies on being able to maintain contact with supernodes, it may appear offline for some of you.
What are we doing to help? Our engineers are creating new ‘mega-supernodes’ as fast as they can, which should gradually return things to normal. This may take a few hours, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption to your conversations. Some features, like group video calling, may take longer to return to normal.
Stay tuned to @skype on Twitter for the latest updates on the situation – and many thanks for your continued patience in the meantime.
While Robert Miller from Skype claims that:
Fring’s mis-use of Skype software was damaging to our brand and reputation
by misusing provided API.
Users deny this accusation:
The only thing damaging Skype's brand is the outrageously slow update speed of its own software.
I really don't care what happened, all I know is that as of now there is no viable way to use Skype on my non-verizon Android devices.
Skype is simply damaging its brand by itself.
pointing out that Fring was the only working Android client for Skype, and complaining about slow rate of development Skype shows in recent years - very limited iPhoneOS Skype being a good example for that.
Sidenote: we have heard that many operators plan to charge skype-to-mobile and skype-to-skype calls per minute, which will probably mean the death to the service. And i realy hope it wont happen.. But - Company offers service for free, company gets lots of users, company needs money, company tries advertisements, ads fail to deliver, company is trying to force users to buy something that was initially free, users leave for competing service, company dies. Been there, seen it many times
