How Much Do You Know About What We Drink?

, ,

I would bet that most of you have heard the majority of these facts. But they are pretty startling, so perhaps a reminder is not a bad thing?

WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
That it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
For almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
Water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
For up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
Memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
The computer screen or on a printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
Colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
Cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop
Bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
You should drink every day?

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
Two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
The highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
And it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
Toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
Then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
Stains from vitreous China.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
Away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
To the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
The baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
With the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8... To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
Into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
Through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
Grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
Windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
Acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
Contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
Commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
Cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
Engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of WATER?

Or COKE?

Okay, So Here's The Thing....HE WAS...

I am not a Coke drinker but I have to admit that it almost takes an act of Congress to get me to swallow water! :yuck:

I know, I know...and I also know how stupid that is! I just happen to hate the stuff. I am so derelict in this duty that it's downright criminal. I am ashamed to admit that if I drink 16 ounces of water a day, it is a huge accomplishment. The only thing that tastes worse to me than water is beer! NO way I can swallow that!

But I really HAVE been working on it and I am hoping that having put this here, it may make me more conscientious. ~crossing fingers~! :faint:

don't hurry. the latest studies have disproven the instruction to drink eight eight ounce glasses of water a day... that's the latest.
totally disproven.

i know from my studies that the best way to hydrate our system is with juices. in collecting the precious liquid we call water, the body processes the vitamins and minerals in the most efficient manner. we were devised to function on the fly, so to speak. like grabbing a few oranges and a banana in the morning before setting out.

you have to think. it's all individual. if you drink a lot of diuretics, then drink an equal amount of water. so,for every cup of coffee or tea, have a glass of water. always have a glass of water with vitamins or medicine. what could be easier.

never drink liquids while eating. before or after eating only.

and think. when you are going for a walk on a hot day. drink a glass of lemonade before you take off. good for hours of energy and hydration.

now i look back and read this.... i can just imagine people saying, "what the hell. what does he know? show me his doctorate!"

"always have a glass of water with vitamins or medicine. what could be easier."

This is the ONE thing I cannot do. I will gag on the meds and send them across the room. I always take meds with juice.

And good advice is good advice. It doesn't require a doctorate. I'm very well aquainted with nutrition and diet information, since I have studied it for many years. If someone decides not to follow my advice when they have requested it...I don't feel bad. They asked, I gave. If they pooh-pooh what I know to be fact, the loss is theirs (or the weight gain, in most cases). I can't beat them into submission.

You can lead a horse to water....p:

and you can always make them drink.

I may get the water down but the meds are another matter! I'm getting better at it but I still have a far way to travel!

Could it be that I am more mule than horse?

"i know from my studies that the best way to hydrate our system is with juices"

I bought a *Juiceman* and fell in love with this machine! My favorite concoction is carrots, a Fuji apple and a slice of ginger. I extract the juice and put it in the freezer while I clean the appliance. Then when I am finished cleaning up, the juice has begun to form ice crystals in the glass. And it tastes GREAT!

Water was my drink of choice from childhood until, well, now. I've augmented my water intake with iced tea on occasion, but I've never been a soda drinker. I've never even tasted coke or pepsi. I'd tride 7UP, and I have a ginger ale once a year or so. I do love me some fruit juice, but even there water gets preference.

Coffee and water are my beverages of choice. I never ever drink soda/pop/soda pop...whatever you choose to call it. The stuff grosses me out. To me, it's like cracking open a jug of Mrs. Butterworth's and chugging it. :yuck:

"You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
And it will be gone in two days."

Egads! The implications of this are astounding! If it can dissolve a steak in two days, how long would it take to dissolve your stomach lining?

I have not had a regular Coke for as long as I can remember but it doesn't even sound appealing at this point! :yikes: Pitoueeee! :yuck:

Karen...have you seen that Geico commercial where Mrs. Butterworth speaks for the person in question? GROSS!!

By cajunlayde, # 5. April 2008, 08:29:31

:eyes: No, I haven't! I'll keep my eyes open for it.

i haven't had a coke for fifty years. maybe that's why i am still alive. omg, i hope the coke people don't get a hold of this comment. i just know that i will be anathematized at best.

"I haven't had a coke for fifty years."

No worries, Scott! I am sure they will have to hunt us down to *dissolve* us in a glass of Coke! Arrrrrrgh! :raider:

But I must admit, the chemicals in that soft drink are off-putting, at best! :eyes:

I love this Blog Cajun Lady! Nicely done.

Here is some information, speaking as a former Lactation Consultant::
~Chemicals, Pollutants, excessive anything really~ ends up in our fat cells at some point. FOREVER, unless removed through liposuction, which you can not remove all fat anyway. Slowly, this chemicals and such are released into the bloodstream, but especially during times of bodily stress like in a dehydrated state. (this is why we advised breastfeeding mothers to keep up fluid intake ~ it is released into breastmilk, but in larger quantities and the impact upon a infant causes the “fussy baby” or “colic” syndrome)...

and

speaking as a former Century Cyclist for the Leukemia Society::
~not to worry if you are unattracted to water! (soda is evil though! ) take a look on the CYCLIST'S BONK PAGE and read about how we must consider our individual needs for water *locale* *potential of sweating* *activity level* and so on ...

Hej Scott ... maybe they can give you a Gatorade embalming? You can be practically any colour of the rainbow then ... :drunk:

All my years of cycling, I bonked only once. Bleah. I have been proerply hydrated (and make sure that I take in appropriate nutrients) ever since.

I admit (with sincere apologies), that I am constantly dehydrated! Mea Culpa! At times my veins stand out as though they are carved in stone!

I know I am in the wrong here and in NO position to lecture, let alone...advise others on this very bad habit. But I am just saying...don't let this happen to YOU!

It creeps up on you before you know it and it is insidious in it's hold over you!
