Fire Fighters and Manatees

, ,

I had my grandchildren here this weekend and had an amazing visit!

My grandson loves firefighters and so we thought it would be fun and educational to visit the local fire station. He got the opportunity to see 3 fire trucks and an alarm came in while we were standing in the big garage, so he also got to see a truck go out on an emergency call, which was very exciting.

The fireman was so kind, he let him sit in the big ladder truck and even try on his boots and hat.

Sunday I took them to the electric plant where we saw manatees as well. He was impressed with the size of the factory and how the electicity was produced for use in our homes. There is a lot of very warm water produced by the plant which is returned to the bay. Manatees prefer the warmer temperatures when the Gulf of Mexico is cool and so they tend to stay there, and so we got to see quite a few manatees as well. We visited the museum afterwards and he had such a good time, the only way I could drag him away was to promise a fire and toasted hot dogs and marshmellows, but we had to go because little sister needed a nap.

The picture of your grandson in the firefighter's helmet is adorable. Just look at that smile! smile

I've only seen a few power plants, and each one looks completely different from the other.

As Stardancer said, looks like you and he had a wonderful day. up

I remember taking my son when he was about five to the fire department down the street from us. They let him sit in the truck. He wanted to turn on the siren but they told him no but that he could honk the horn. You should have seen his face....it was so loud I think it scared him for a second. Then he grinned real big like your grandson.

good post lois. glad to see you got to spend quality time with your grandchildren. some of my fondest memories of my grandma were sunday afternoon after church and lunch when we'd go driving around cherokee county learning about all the different trees and flowers growing. then, we'd go down to the schoolhouse and play in grandma's classroom (first grade school teacher). i am fond of the fire too!
