Work
My previous 3 weeks was a hectic one. I had been working quite late each night (sometimes past midnight) and working over the weekends. Quite a tiring and draining experience for me especially the need to analyse and tackle a host of issues from multiple angles.
I barely have time to blog due to the busyness of work.

Journey, Work
I have not been blogging for the past 3 weeks as I was and currently very busy with a large project.
Hopefully once the project is over I will be able to blog regularly.

Journey
I have been struggling lately to keep up with my Time Alone With God. There are some days which I find it difficult to concentrate in praying and quieting down to hear God. This problem only surfaced since 2007 when I have many responsibilities with work, studies and other matters.
On the other hand I realized that in spite of the distractions I need to strive to increase the quality of the Time Alone With God (TAWG) God is my only source of refuge in the midst of the challenges around me. I just need to press on and be persistant. It is not about doing a good TAWG once in a while but to have a journey of consistent TAWG regardless whether it is up or down.
At the end life, it is how well you finished the race.

Work
I have completed my 5 weeks secondment in audit. Although it was a great experience learning about the unit trust industry, I did not enjoy cleaning up someone's else messy working papers. Especially when the figures in the working papers are different from the final accounts or missing. What is annoying is the working paper files are not properly done during the field work and when it comes to the partner's review, lots of amendments need to be done at the last minute.
Thank God I am not in audit anymore.

Cell Events
In the absence of a cell group meeting tonight (since the leaders are away for a leaders' meeting), I am heading to one of the cell group member's house with some cellies for some board games.

Work, Journey
These some of the bad news from Accounting Age regarding the auditing profession in the UK and Ireland.
1) PwC and Deloitte had laid off 1% to 2% of their staff.
2) EY considering to reduce headcount by 1%.
3) KPMG had reduced the working hours for its staff at a lower pay.
It seems that no industry in the world including the once secure auditing profession is recession proof. I hope that it will not spread to Malaysia especially when some Singaporean audit firms had also laid off staff.
For me, I believed I have to be over-worried by the turmoils in the job market especially when God promised to honor those who place His kingdom first (Matthew 6:33). However, I can't afford to be complacent as I need to prepare and equip myself for any eventuality. I believed in my heart that 2009 is a year of positioning for many including myself. The question is where will I be 2, 3 or even 10 years from now?

Work
Been working late yesterday and today to clean up some messy audit working paper files left by my predecessors. Not a very enjoyable experience.

Work
These are some of the annoying matters which I noticed in audit life
1) Severe staff shortage resulting in too much responsibilities on a few staff.
2) Trying to finalize the accounts but the previous staff left the audit working paper files in such a mess that it is virtually impossible to finalize the accounts and clean up the file.
3) Communication breakdowns. Instruction given to staff is far different from the end product.
4) Buffers. More buffers are added into the deadline for internal reporting purposes which causes unnecessary stress.

Work
It has been 8 days for me in Audit. I was tasked to assist in completing the final audit of several prominent unit trust funds.
I find the learning curve very steep in order to work efficiently. This is especially when there is a tight deadline and the audit work papers that were given to me was not properly done up and updated. To further complicate matters, I had not been auditing for the past 3 years since I left Ernst and Young.
It is the first time I am auditing a unit trust company or being involved in the financial services sector. After been in audit for 8 days, it became very clear that this is not the job the I will be in for the future. Although I am not the lead senior on the job, I can understand the pressures and unreasonable deadline (usually caused by inadequate staffing) which is prevalent across the Big 4.
Despite the high pay, audit is not attractive to me especially I am been quite comfortable in TS and the crazy audit working hours that will persist on for a long time.

Work
I will be seconded to audit next week for 5 to 6 weeks. Still thankful for a job although audit is not my cup of tea.
