Growing in God's Word

I was listening to a sermon about growing in God's Word. The following are common methods used by Christians to grow in God’s Word.
1) Listening to sermons
It is a good start. But unless you take down notes, you will only retained 10% of the sermon. Taking notes helps you to think through the sermon. However, unless you review those notes frequently, you may also forget about the sermon.
2) Reading the Bible
This involves reading without meditating and perhaps reading the Bible as one reads other literature. This method only enables you to retain 20% of what you read.
3) Studying the Bible
This requires more time and discipline compared with just reading. It involves going through Bible commentaries, meditating on verses / passages and understanding how to apply Biblical solutions into your life.
Having said that, during my soul searching this week, I realized there are some areas to work on such as studying the Word in greater detail and measure. Besides, it will be better to continue to meditate God's Word at all times.
