Vietnam -winner of Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF) Suzuki Cup

On December 28, 2008 Vietnam team's soccer stood in the stage for winner of Southeast Asian Football Championship (AFF) Suzuki Cup.
This is the first time, we celebrated our team's victory in this award. We-the visiting team side- destroyed the formbook when we edged Singapore 1-0 aggregate in the semi-final for the chance to face ThaiLand in the final which took place on 24 Dec in Bangkok and 28 Dec in HaNoi

Vietnam outclassed in-form Thailand 2-1 in first-leg match on Bangkok. Vietnam's team was bring a happiest present for Vietnamese fans in Christmas Eve. Midfield Vu Long slammed Vietnam into early lead with a header after receiving the perfect pass from his teammate TAN TAI in the 39th minutes. Three minutes later, Viet Thang set up the ball for Cong Vinh to fire home from a close-range shot. Thailand picked up in the second half, and their efforts were awarded in the 75th minutes. Substitute Ronnachai headed straight at Vietnam goalie Hong Son who failed to grab the ball. The ball hit the woodwork and then Son's leg before being deflected into the net. One minute later, Dangda scored a goal for Thailand, but it was overruled by the referee as it was made in an offside position. Thailand put mounting pressure, but their counterattracks met strong resistance of Vietnam defenders. Hong Son was inspired form, repelling Thai attract and producing brilliant saves in both half.
On Dec. 28, the second-leg of the final round took place in My Dinh's stadium. One again, Vietnam's team stunned Thailand. It was seem to be Thailand was going to win after they scored a goal in first half. In last minute of addition time, Cong Vinh had a free kick and scored. The crowd went wild, the players ran around, on the edge of fainting with sheer joy. Final score of the second match was 1-1 and Vietnam won the Suzuki Cup 2008 over Thailand, congratulations Vietnam!!!
Henrique Calisto, the head coach of the Vietnam national team, in a interview, he stated that "You ask me how I feel at the moment? First, I am very tired but at the same time I am so elated (that we made the final). Once again, I have to thank fans. They helped the Vietnamese player"
