Cary pediatrics I am not an Alcoholic

, , , ...

Many of us go to a wedding or a birthday and have a few drinks. But then there is always that guy that has a few too many drinks. College students are known for binge drinking. For binge drinkers and excessive users they are putting their bodies and lives at risk.

The social and emotional damage alcohol can do can be dramatic. Alcohol is a depressant and often causes more problems for the abuser. Many people are killed each year from excessive use of alcohol. And the physical damage caused to your body can be irreversible.

Your weight, age, sex and meal consumption can all play part in how alcohol effects each person. Not everyone has the same effect even if they drank the same amount. Alcohol enters the bloodstream via the stomach and is then absorbed by all of the tissue in your body.

Mild alcohol use can have some effects, but with moderate and excessive you see many more effects. With moderates amounts you will experience dizziness and become very talkative. This is where many people fall. Excessive use can cause nausea, vomiting, clip disturbance and impaired abilities.

If you have ever had a night and drank too many drinks you probably were faced with a hangover the next day. A hangover makes you feel like you have the flu perhaps. It can make you feel achy and fatigued as well as cause a headache and cause dehydration.

There are some pretty serious withdraw symptoms when an abuser stops taking their drug, alcohol included. Some of the milder withdraws would be tremors and anxiety issues. Some more severe are hallucinations and even convulsions.

For those who have abused alcohol for prolonged periods of time they could be doing irreversible damage to vital organs such as the brain and the liver. Drinking while pregnant can cause fetal alcohol syndrome. Fetal Alcohol syndrome can cause mental retardation and physical deformations.

Some people that are at risk for abusing, such as those already under emotional stress should not drink. By knowing the facts about drinking alcohol I hope you can make good decisions about consumption. Be aware if you are at risk.
