Meet CIA Leaker Mary McCarthy

The media backlash has begun. ABC is afraid firing those who leak secrets to the media will "cloud public window on government".
More on Ray McGovern here. He has called for Bush impeachment in the past, which is not mentioned in the ABC story.
The Seattle Times says she is professional, plays by the book and has great integrity, but the evil Bush administration made her leak.
Analysis of the McCarthy story is all over the blog world, and I don't have much to add to what has already been written. Secrets are secrets, not a way to feel important by leaking them.
More:
Belmont Club here and here, discussing her political ties and past analysis work. She is a Democrat, donated to Kerry, and appointed by Clinton.
Flopping Aces has lots of information and links, including speculation that McCarthy sent Joe Wilson to Nigeria, initiating the whole Plame affair.
Spook86 discusses why secrets matter.
More firings may be on the way. I hope so.
Many are ignoring an important point: McCarthy leaked a story about secret CIA prisons in Europe. The EU is not America's best friend, but they say there is zero evidence to support the story. What the hell happened here? Was a false story given to McCarthy to see if she would leak it to the media? I don't believe the CIA is competent enough to cover its tracks so thoroughly and I don't believe the EU would cover up for the CIA. (Update: Wizbang also thinks it might have been a sting.)
Will Dana Priest have his Pulitzer revoked since the story was false? I suspect not.
One Pulitzer was not awarded this year.
Update: Sens. Durbin and Rockefeller may be asked to take polygraphs.
"This a matter of principle," said Ray McGovern, a former fellow CIA analyst, "where she said my oath, my promise not to reveal secrets is superceded by my oath to defend the constitution of the U.S."
