Update: The London terrorist was planning a nerve gas attack, probably on the London Underground.
- What worse, fascism or communism? Ah, trick question! They are simply forms of totalitarianism, just like Islamism. Oddly, some see communist China and the USSR as failed attempts at a greater good, despite its crimes.
- Bernard Lewis has a long discussion of Islamism and the Danish cartoon intifada. Take a look, it is interesting and includes a discussion of the evolution of socialist strategies.
What is never discussed at all — it is never considered — is an offense committed by a non-Muslim in a non-Muslim country. That, according to the unanimous opinion of all of the doctors of the holy law is no concern of Islamic law, which brings us back to the case of Denmark. Does this mean that Denmark, along with the rest of Europe is now considered part of the Islamic lands, and that the Danes, like the rest, are therefore dhimmis, non-Muslim subjects of the Muslim state? I think this is an interesting question, which can lead to several possible lines of inquiry.
- Juan Cole did not get his job at Yale. Thank God for a little common sense from the Ivy League.
- MI5 knows about 700 terrorists and 20 major known plots in the UK. One arrested for plotting chemical attack on London. 17 Jihadis nailed in Canada, including 2 Americans, possibly while plotting to blowup the Canadian intelligence service or a nuclear plant. They used internet monitoring, which is so controversial in the US. The media tries to ignore the Muslim connection.
- Friggin' CNN reporter tours Palestinian rocket factory. Too bad he doesn't live in Israel to see the effects of those rockets.
- Syrian diplomat blames Israel for WWI and WWII, although Israel did not exist until after both had ended.
- Iran is purchasing small, fast patrol boats in an attempt to use a swarm strategy against American warships in the Persian Gulf. It worked in US wargames in the past.
- Car-beques in France! And if Europe antagonizes Iran, they get "concentrated and pure" heroin! What a deal! English imam says he has the right to preach jihad against infidels. Did I mention support for the Palestinians is dropping like a dove shot with a Syrian-supplied AK47?
- In other news, Ahmadinajed is not crazy, he is just a sane religious nut. Or something like that. Anyway, neo-nazis and the NY Times likes the fruitcake.
- Aussie Muslims don't like sex ed or homosexuality. Denmark blamed for cartoon riots. And Brits can't fly the St. George flag for the World Cup because it might offend Muslims. And the Bible is as bad or worse than the Koran regarding calls to kill, supposedly.
- Iran talks blah blah blah, Rice blah blah blah, refusal blah blah blah, English no military option blah blah blah.
- R. James Woolsey says Israel's withdrawal within security borders was a mistake, causing a Fatah/Hamas civil war and attacks on Israeli towns. The attacks were already happening and I think the civil war is a wonderful thing to keep the terrorists occupied and show the world exactly what they are. He is correct that Jordan is facing instability and needs help.
- The Pentagon wants to develop a sub-launched Trident missile with conventional warhead to strike targets around the globe quickly. It would have the advantage of large warheads, versus the small charge found on cruise missiles.
- The US and Israel have an agreement on Iran:
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have agreed on a timetable for American intervention to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability. Bush told Olmert that the plans for US intervention are congruent with the timetable put up by the later during their discussion, a media report said on Thursday.
He assured the Israeli premier that Washington would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear capability, Ynetnews reported.
According to Israeli intelligence assessment, Iran will acquire the necessary nuclear technology to build a nuclear weapon within a year, Olmert said during the talks - In surprise news, Iraq and Al Qaeda had close ties. I guess Rumsfeld wasn't lying.
- I have a crush on Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Don't tell my wife.
Her own view, however, is that “following this man [Muhammad] can lead to only one thing, fascism... .”
Hirsi Ali says she decided to confront Muhammad’s history after Nigerian Muslims rioted over the planned 2002 Miss World contest there. A British-educated Nigerian journalist poured fuel on the fire by writing that Muhammad himself would have married one of the contestants. The rioting killed 200 people.
“So I said,” Hirsi Ali confides, “ ‘You know what, darling Europeans? I’m going to tell you about Muhammad!’ ”
True to her gloves-off approach, Hirsi Ali talked about how Muhammad, who had nine wives, fell in love with his wife Aisha when she was 6 and married her when she was 9. Hirsi Ali outraged Dutch Muslims by accusing Muhammad of pedophilia. - May 29 was the anniversary of the fall of Constantinople. Here is an chilling little post about the event.
- Al Gore believes in lying about global warming? "Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis." Yes, I believe he does.
Update: What China needs to do to equal the US and achieve superpower status. It won't be easy.
