First Hollywood, now Jon Benet Ramsey: an arrest has been made in the 1996 murder of the 6 year old beauty queen.

A former schoolteacher was arrested Wednesday in Thailand in the slaying of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey — a surprise breakthrough in a lurid, decade-old murder mystery that had cast a cloud of suspicion over her parents.

Ramsey family attorney Lin Wood identified the suspect as John Mark Karr, 41. Federal officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the name, and one law enforcement official told The Associated Press that Boulder police had tracked him down online.

It was widely reported, but not confirmed by authorities, that Karr taught in California until he was stripped of his teaching credentials following an arrest on child pornography charges.

U.S. authorities said Karr was initially taken into custody in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges. But Thai police Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul said he was unaware of any criminal charges the suspect faced in Thailand.

Update: It's another Rove plot to distract America from Lieberman's loss in the Democratic primary. Those people are insane. Really. Insane.

Update: Mike, who says it obviously wasn't an accident:

"I was with JonBenet when she died," John Mark Karr told reporters in Bangkok, visibly nervous and stuttering as he spoke. "Her death was an accident."

Police said Karr, 41, admitted to the killing after he was arrested Wednesday at his downtown Bangkok apartment by Thai and American authorities.

THIS one really irks me. We don't have all the facts yet. But what I want to know is what this guy's connection was to Benet -- was he her tutor or something? Or her regular teacher at school? If so, what the hell were the cops on the case thinking by not checking this guy out from the get-go? Every teacher she had should have been checked out, that's just basic investigation (especially if you're stuck).

The DA better be careful. His lawyer is going to claim the "I'll say Anthing to get out of a Thailand jail" defense.
